Hosta Flowers

The other big group of flowers we've seen in the garden over the past month have been the Hostas.  We have a lot, and there always seem to be several in flower, though we're down to the last 5 or 6 now.  Personally I favour the smaller Hostas like those in the scree garden at the front door, perhaps because I can get really close to photograph them

These are the tiny purple ones I favour, right at the front door beside the sidewalk.
With these my view almost straight down gives a quite different perspective.

Some have so many flowers they appear all jumbled together.
This is one of our favourites with tall dignified flowers and interesting leaves to boot.

Still it's the small ones out front that are my favourites.

  1. Hostas are an easy to grow and overlooked landscape plant. Lots of different sizes and interesting textures.

  2. I love those ones with the deeply veined leaves and the clusters of white flowers. There is a fantastic hosta nursery between Burritts Rapids and Arnprior that I want to get to before the season is done. I think we needs some in the deep shade by the front of the house.

  5. Your favourites ones are lovely. I’ve never favoured hosta blooms. Maybe I’ve had the wrong hostas.

  7. Your Hostas are so full of flowers. You must do a lot of watering! Mine have suffered during the past month of heat and drought. I've begun cutting all the flower stalks off because they look pretty sad.

  10. I really enjoy hostas. I'm glad you do, too.
Unfortunately, Bambi enjoys my hosta, too. I'm down to a few, right near the house. LIttle devils!

  11. Like you, we have a lot of hostas too and they grow so well here despite all our pine trees. I too like the purple blooms.

  12. The hostas we have are particular and will only grow in certain areas but that's okay. I love the big elephant leaves but the dark green with white trim are a favourite for me.
Beautiful and the flowers stretch really tall.
