The other big group of flowers we've seen in the garden over the past month have been the Hostas. We have a lot, and there always seem to be several in flower, though we're down to the last 5 or 6 now. Personally I favour the smaller Hostas like those in the scree garden at the front door, perhaps because I can get really close to photograph them
These are the tiny purple ones I favour, right at the front door beside the sidewalk. There are lots with white blooms too, short or tall, the first of these quite short, the second a single flowerhead nearly 3 feet tall.
With these my view almost straight down gives a quite different perspective. This is one of our favourites with tall dignified flowers and interesting leaves to boot.
Still it's the small ones out front that are my favourites.
Hostas are an easy to grow and overlooked landscape plant. Lots of different sizes and interesting textures.
ReplyDeleteI love those ones with the deeply veined leaves and the clusters of white flowers. There is a fantastic hosta nursery between Burritts Rapids and Arnprior that I want to get to before the season is done. I think we needs some in the deep shade by the front of the house.
ReplyDeleteA nice selection of hostas.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lovely photos of all the hostas. Some of those leaves can get really huge!
ReplyDeleteYour favourites ones are lovely. I’ve never favoured hosta blooms. Maybe I’ve had the wrong hostas.
ReplyDeleteThey are all beautiful...I have never met a hosta I didn't love.
ReplyDeleteYour Hostas are so full of flowers. You must do a lot of watering! Mine have suffered during the past month of heat and drought. I've begun cutting all the flower stalks off because they look pretty sad.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I'm partial to purple.
ReplyDeleteHello, The hosta flowers are so pretty. I love the purple color. Have a happy day and a great week!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy hostas. I'm glad you do, too.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Bambi enjoys my hosta, too. I'm down to a few, right near the house. LIttle devils!
Like you, we have a lot of hostas too and they grow so well here despite all our pine trees. I too like the purple blooms.
ReplyDeleteThe hostas we have are particular and will only grow in certain areas but that's okay. I love the big elephant leaves but the dark green with white trim are a favourite for me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and the flowers stretch really tall.
I like the small purple flowers, too. Your pictures are very well done. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your hosta garden beauties.
