Cardinals!

For the first time I believe since we moved here, we had a pair of Cardinals visit the bird feeders.  Mrs. F.G. had seen them flash by the window before, but this time they stayed, at least for a few minutes, and gobbled down some sunflower seeds.  Fingers crossed that they return this winter.

This is by far my best picture ever of a Cardinal.  Had to lighten it up a lot so it didn't look like a dark bird against a snowy background, but those male Cardinals sure look bright red!

I really like this more natural picture of the female Cardinal, but I didn't get the bird itself perfectly clear.

The Chickadees are our most faithful visitors, coming and going all day long for the sunflower seeds.  It always seems that they have to work so hard, carrying each seed away to peck it open and eat the seed.

For the past week we've also had Dark-eyed Juncos, typical winter visitors.  They come 'south' for the winter, but seem happy with our 2 feet of snow and don't go further south.!

The passing flock of Goldfinch cluster around the feeders in a flurry of feathers, and just sit there and eat.  They seem to like the niger seed best.  These ones graciously all looked up from eating at once.

I'm late for Saturday, but I'm linking to:

  3. Some mighty fine bird photos and isn't it a nice feeling one has filling up those winter feeders knowing how much it helps out the feathery little fellers.

  5. Great bird photos, especially of the cardinal. We don't see any cardinals here in the PNW so I enjoy seeing photos of them.

  8. Lovely shots. I seem to have a lot of Christmas cards this year featuring Cardinals, which is about as near as we'll get to them on this side of the pond.

  10. You could easily use those pictures for Greeting Cards. If you became a Snowbird those beauties would have to fly further south for food.
    Are you using a tripod?
    What lens are you using?
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  11. Cardinals have been seen less than a kilometre down the road but not here yet (ever!). Great photos of the chickadees. They are so faithful to visit the feeders along with the goldfinches. We've had Pine Grosbeaks and Evening Grosbeaks around this winter, the first in many years.

  15. Congratulations on your cardinals. They sure are far north for "southern" birds, but you'll see more of them with the climate change we're all dealing with.
