Scree Garden Flowers

We have some tiny little flowers in our scree garden, a place for alpine plants.  In many ways its my favourite part of the garden.  The tiny plants seem to grow in the face of adversity.

This isn't actually in the scree garden, but it spills over a wall of railway ties nearby, just coincidentally in front of that gnome.

For a brief while in spring, these flowers give a bright shot of colour in this corner of the garden.  I like the different colours and patterns.  All of these are varieties of Creeping Phlox.

This is a tiny little plant, with even tinier blooms, that most of the year looks like a groundcover.  But briefly it sends up short stems with these tiny speckled blooms, less than half an inch across.

But most of the year it looks like this.

Another patch nearby, also with this fascinating tiny pink flower, covered in white hairs or spikes.  This plant is just a groundcover most of the year too.

We also have a small patch of 'Manitoulin Daisy', a small bright yellow flower that is found growing across the limestone alvars of Manitoulin Island.  This is actually a rare Great Lakes endemic plant, but our small patch is healthy and spreading.  Just the beginning of a great season in the garden.
