Fences

Just a few fences today, that I've snapped in passing - or else they got in the way of a picture of a barn, some trees, or a view!  I remain fascinated by all the roadside fences that have fenceposts so close together, and I especially like the view in the distance when they all seem to compress right together.

  1. Interesting to see the stile on that fence -- have never seen one down this way. Is that one on a trail or just for the farmer's convenience?

  5. All very nice fences. I like the first one the best, but I don't know why. :-)

  6. And there is a stile! There aren't many left around here, all fallen into disrepair. I should get out there and make photos of any I can find before they are all gone.
    Have a great day!

  8. interesting fences!! designed to keep something in?? or keep something out?? to me, who knows nothing about a farmers life, it does not seem these fences would be effective. they are very pretty, especially with that beautiful snow!!!

    1. Debbie, all of these fields are, or have recently been, pastures, so the fences are quite good enough to keep cattle from wandering.

  11. I'm not leaving, just thinking, and that has gotten me into trouble many times.

The blog is basically, when you get right to it, is for me. I've lost sight of that. Cleaning my glasses right now.

My favorite kind of fences...time, livestock and weather tested with a story to tell.

  12. That is a very rustic fence. I can't tell if there are really any truly strong supporting posts. My dad will build ones with steel post between wooden posts. I bet both are still standing today. The wood was from hedge apple trees.

    1. Yes, many of those intervening 'posts' are just clipped to the wire and actually stand on top of the ground, but every 16 feet or so there's a 'serious' post, sunk in the ground. You can see them best in the 3rd and 4th pictures.
