Clematis and Peonies

The first two Clematis and three of the new Peonies are out in bloom now, as we enjoy these new plants Mrs. F.G. ordered last fall.  It's hard to believe that only 9 months ago this entire back yard was just grass!  Both the patio and the expanded garden were only really started last August and September.  What a change!

This my favourite Clematis for colour, a very deep ruby-red.  As you know, I just like bright colours.  This is Clematis niobe, the Early Large-flowered Clematis.

The new Clematis out front has been planted under the new obelisk, and it's tall enough to almost reach the top.  It's also a deep red colour, not quite fully out yet and a smaller-flowered one.  I can't get close to it, so Mrs. F.G. took this one, as well as the two of the red Peony below.  This is Clematis 'Princess Diana'.  As you can see, this flower is a different shape as well, like many of the smaller-flowered Clematis.  Compare this to the second photo above, where the petals are almost flat/

And the Peonies continue to bloom.  This is the bright pink one.

This is a very pale pink one.

And these are a bright red one, almost the same colour as the first Clematis above.  So the first group of Mrs. F.G.'s new colourful spring plants has done well.  We'll have to wait for the next group, in early July, the Day Lilies, to have another burst of colour.
