We've seen a fox or two out on the grass several times recently, but the other morning it was obviously demonstrating its ability to be a predator. It had a fair-sized something it was eating. It looked like a rabbit, but we have to admit it might have been a cat.
I was able to shoot a couple of pictures through the window with my iphone, but you can't really crop these much without them going blurry. But then Mrs. F.G. got out my big camera and took it out behind the tree to get some more pictures. We were trying to see what it had to eat as well as just see the fox. Mrs. F.G., the gardener, hoped it was a rabbit!
My money is on the meal being a rabbit, F.G. Adult cats are well armed with sharp teeth and claws. If a cat, perhaps a road kill salvage.
ReplyDeleteHave to agree, an adult cat would be a tough go for a red fox unless it was injured or ill. A rabbit on the other hand would be easy. Mrs. F.G. should be happy -- of course if it was a cat you'd see more songbirds.
ReplyDeleteThat fox sure looks skinny. Whatever he caught looks almost too big for either cat or rabbit but it's hard to tell.
ReplyDeleteWe had foxes living nearby at one time. One looked in the side light of the front door. We haven’t seen then for a few years now. Gorgeous creatures!
ReplyDeleteI would think a rabbit.
ReplyDeleteThat looks too big for any fox to have killed. Probably roadkill or some other carrion.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping rabbit too, not because I don't like them bu I hate to think of a family pet.......you know. Great pictures though, Mrs. FG.
ReplyDeleteI hope it was a rabbit rather than a cat. But one can't fault the fox for hunting.
ReplyDeleteWe all gotta live.
ReplyDeleteVery windy here too.
