Underfoot

It seems to have been a very good fall season for mushrooms and fungi.  Sidekick saw lots of mushrooms underfoot on his hike at Lion's Head.  He gathered a slew of photographs and here are some of the most interesting ones.  I'm not even going to try and identify them, but try and picture yourself out in the damp woods on a cool morning, spotting these as you walk.

Hope you enjoyed those.

And I'll throw in one of the view from Sidekick's property down in the valley, Old Baldy in the distance.  I've walked all over Sidekick's property, which borders the Beaver River and is slowly returning to forest, aided by his tree planting.

In yesterday's comments Karen asked how long the trail was on this map.  The red trail around the edge, the main Bruce Trail, is 20 km. on this map, where it appears on the south to where it disappears heading north. The hike Sidekick and his wife did was 15 km. out and back from the parking lot at the end of the village street.

Another big spam attack this morning, mostly applying to past posts.  I have reset my comment permissions to require moderator approval if for posts older than 3 days at Gord's suggestion.  We'll see how that works.

  3. I can picture myself doing exactly that - it was what I was doing only yesterday! Lots of fungi to delight in over here this year too.

  4. Fungi are so photogenic. It's been so dry down here that fungi are few and far between.

  6. I’m in London and hardly going out before my heart procedure in a couple of weeks, but other posts I’ve seen from the U.K. seem to be showing a lot more fungi than you might usually see.

  7. I’m having trouble with my account too. Don’t people have anything better to do?

  10. Thank you for answering my question. We did a very short part of the trail three years ago. I'd just had knee replacement so we weren't able to go too far.
