Picking up on our Sunday afternoon drive, after we left the John Muir Lookout, we headed on down into the valley. Our favourite place to see some really bright leaves is the drive into Amik subdivision at the old Talisman Ski Club. Now divorced from their ski hill, this is a winding road up the slope with 20 or more ski chalets. But it's quite well forested for a subdivision, homes built right in the woods.
Driving in we got a view of the west slope of the valley, and the transformation to fall colours is well underway as you can see.
Lots of bright red and orange leaves, compared to the dominantly yellow leaves at the bottom of the valley. Here there are a lot of Sugar Maples which bring the brighter colours.
One chalet had some Burning Bushes out front, and there were plenty of Sumach, providing the brightest reds of all.
Leaving the subdivision we came across this large Snapping Turtle on the road. When we drove in there had been people stopped and standing on the road to look at it, but apparently not knowing what to do. So Mrs. F.G. who usually has a flat shovel in the back, hopped out, took the shovel and lifted it off the road in the direction it was headed. The people stopped seemed astonished that we travel with a shovel, and we apparently knew what to do, but we left the turtle safe.
I used my other lightweight camera for these, trying it out to see what results it gives. But it was a slightly hazy and bright day, reducing picture quality.
Glorious fall colours!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that people were concerned about the turtle is great. Yay for Mrs. FG and the shovel.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of colour change! I find that the new blogger is making pics a bit hazy & slightly out of focus. Hurray for the rescue of the turtle!
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of beautiful fall leaves where you live!
ReplyDeleteLove the colour change, and the brightness.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous views of the colorful leaves and trees! Take care, have a great day!
ReplyDeleteFantastic displays of fall color. I think sugar maples are the prettiest of fall trees.
ReplyDeleteLovely fall foliage. Mrs. FG may have been a scout, always prepared.
ReplyDeleteMrs FG getting that shovel out of the trunk and calmly scooping up the turtle and placing him safely off the road makes me smile. Good for her.
ReplyDeleteLove the Autumn colours.
mrs. fg to the rescue...she is an amazing woman!! your autumn colors are gorgeous already, we have only very small pops of colors yet!!
ReplyDeleteYOur fall colors are way ahead of ours. Such a nice gesture to move that turtle out of harm's way. :-)
ReplyDeleteYea for Mrs. FG for helping that turtle out and yes, using a shovel to move a Snapping Turtle is definitely the safest way to do that.
ReplyDeleteYeah for Mrs FG!!! Always prepared!
ReplyDeleteI like seeing the colors on the mountains. They look a lot like the ones I saw in Canada on the eastern side near Superior.
