Well, Blogger totally reversed the pictures in my post this morning, so I'm not going to go through the painful business of correcting that, I'll just tell you the story in reverse!
In Harrison Park where we watched the salmon I crossed the bridge in pursuit of a bright red Sugar Maple I could see. And we ended up exploring a short distance of the old 'One-Mile Drive', now a walking trail in the park. This used to be a narrow one-way road you could drive, and I remember driving my grandmother here when I was very young, in the early 1950s!
The bright red Sugar Maple just beyond the bridge.Although we've walked the trail north from this point, we've never walked south, so we turned right and headed down the old 'One-Mile Drive' which is now a nice walking trail. The slopes in here are very steep, cut into the Queenston Shale, a lower level of the escarpment Lots of exposed roots. This is actually the Harrison Park Side Trail of the Bruce Trail. With the main trail through the Palisades (cliffs along the east here) it can make a large loop walk.We only had limited time, so then it was back to the bridge and home. A rare actual walk in the woods for me!
I'm sure you must have enjoyed that. The autumn colours are beginning to look good.
ReplyDeleteLovely fall colours!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that so many of the trails are accessible to all now. The old rail line out by me (the one that goes through the lower half of Algonquin Park) is rough out this way so only used by ATVs. The branch line that goes up through Achray is beautiful for most of the way.It gets a lot of use!
ReplyDeleteThat must have felt so good for you to be out in the woods!
ReplyDeleteI keep having issues with the new blogger every few days and have no idea why.
Autumn, when the leaves give us such deep colour, beautiful trails to travel along.
