Kitesurfing at Oliphant!

Leaving Petrel Point, we returned south and drove out to the shore at the North Oliphant Beach.  We were surprised to see a kitesurfer fly by in the distance.  But by the time we got headed along the shore road, we realized there were at least a dozen kitesurfers zipping by on the choppy waters in the brisk breeze.

I thought the two on the right were pretty close. You don't want the lines to get tangled!

We sat and watched the spectacle for awhile, enjoying the excitement.  It seems that kitesurfing has taken over from the lone windsurfer here in popularity.

Then a guy very close by started up.  It was great to see how quickly they got going.  It looked like you had to be pretty strong to hold the lines and pull yourself up.

We tore ourselves away and drove on down the shore road.  The water was obviously very high, and there were fens on the inner side if the road too.  We turned east and headed home, a very adventurous day for us!

  1. What fun! I have never had the urge to kitesurf, but I did slalom ski regularly as a young person. Great shots! :-)

  3. They are brave, in my eyes, to get out there and surf along like that. What a great day out. Cold and wet again down here, fire is lit and coffee made.

  7. I think I'll stay on dry land if it's all the same to you. I was watching some windsurfers recently; it looks like a dangerous and expensive way to get wet.

  8. My Dad had a cottage on Boat Lake south of Wiarton but I never did make it over to have a look around the Oliphant area despite having an aunt living there somewhere. In Mexico's seaside town of Puerto Vallarta one time during the mid 80's I went up under a big parasail tethered too and being towed by a boat. Great experience and I managed to land back on the beach without even getting my feet wet. Think I might have posted some pictures of that in a blog posting once.

  9. Safety and comfort should be maintained every steps of life. Waling sticks help the elderly people walk smoothly without any aid from other people. Also these sticks are helpful for people with knee or ankle problem so that they can support themselves. I always prefer mobility aids from aids4mobility as they are very durable and reasonable.
