It's a beautiful walk beside the farmland, but some hikers from further away don't understand why dogs shouldn't be allowed.
In some cases landowners have cancelled handshake agreements because of persistent use of dogs on the trail, so we do our best to get hikers to co-operate in locations like this.
In the meantime, I got some nice pictures of the fence.
At the far end of the field you're past the pasture and beside a crop field. The only way the trail survives in our area is through co-operation with rural landowners.
That last photo with the "legacy" tree is really nice.
ReplyDeleteit's a beautiful spot/trail, what a shame that some peeps don't follow the rules. very nice fence images, i like your perspective!!!!
ReplyDeleteHopefully more people heed the signs.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful area. Great that the landowners can co-operate, sad that the hikers can't.
ReplyDeleteGotta love a straight solid fence. I know the work that went into those.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures.
Photo #3, my pick for today with shaded shadows under the branches. And yes any fence has a whole lot of work behind it. I remember WAY back in the 1950's or so. I held a large hammer or similar behind the batten when my Dad put the wires on with staples. And probably put the posts in without any mechanical help.!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty land. It is nice of the landowner to allow hikers to cross his property. Too bad some folks aren't respectful of his wishes.
ReplyDeleteIn my experience nearly all walkers follow the rules and most farmers are very tolerant of people on their land - it's just a shame that a few thoughtless people, on both sides, ruin things for the rest of us. It'd be a great shame if people can't see the land they live in - you simply don't see the same country from inside a car.
ReplyDeleteDog owners are a bit of a plague. At a research facility where I do bird monitoring twice a week off leash dogs are a huge issue. Everyone thinks that their lovely pooch is not a problem and when I ask them to leash their dog the reaction I get from some of them would make a sailor blush. But rampant dogs have destroyed rare orchids in areas off limits to their owners and have caused ground nesting birds to abandon their nests. Even on certain trails where dogs are excluded completely their owners simply ignore the signs and it is rarely that I do not encounter at least one person walking a dog out of bounds.
ReplyDeleteHello, it is the people that do not follow the rules that ruin it for other people. I am a dog lover but would always follow the rules. It is a beautiful place for a hike, lovely views. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI knew cattle could be but did not realize that dogs on leash could cause that. He has a right to his use of land and I hope that others understand.
ReplyDeleteThere can be such conflict in mutual lands space use.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about the memorial, but I guess one takes a risk.
I like your waterfall photo. I keep thinking of doing this, or learning how, but there is much going on.
Such a peaceful place. I do wonder why dog owners don't keep their dogs where they won't cause trouble. Unfortunately many people treat them like spoiled children. :-(
ReplyDeleteI love the leading lines of the fences!
ReplyDeletenice fences. And I hope hikers take the responsibility and keep dogs om leach.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your photo's (sometimes there are folks who do need reminding!) but my favourite is your last one.
ReplyDeleteI just love the way it's framed.
All the best Jan
