William, our Hero

William was born Feb. 22, 1977; it seems like yesterday.

He gave his life on May 22, 2015, fighting a forest fire near Cold Lake in northern Alberta.

He followed his dream and found it.

You can read more about him under the tab above.

  1. Those are beautiful tributes to William. One consolation you have is that he achieved his dream and died doing what he loved.

  3. I thought of your son when we saw the water bombers over the cottage during forest fire season.

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings

  6. Oh my, I'm so sorry for your loss. Even though it is a few years ago, I'm sure the pain is still there especially on this his birthday.

I have friends who have flown water bombers and bird dogs, in fact I would not be surprised that at least one or two would have known your son. The aviation world is truly a small one.

When I lived in Northern Saskatchewan, it wasn't unusual to see the water bombers landing on the lake to pick up a load of water to transport. I was always so impressed with the precision it required to bring those large planes down.

    Take care, stay well.

  11. I read the first link. What a man! This must be such a hard day for you.
(I think I know the memorial by Breton Flats that William Kendall (above) refers to. If I ever get that way again, I will have a look.)

  12. I feel my heart rate increase each time I read about William. He was so young, I can't imagine. I sent last year's memorial blog to my brother in Cold Lake and it got to his heart too. Just the number 22 has mixed blessings, doesn't it. 💗
