Oh my, I'm so sorry for your loss. Even though it is a few years ago, I'm sure the pain is still there especially on this his birthday.
I have friends who have flown water bombers and bird dogs, in fact I would not be surprised that at least one or two would have known your son. The aviation world is truly a small one.
When I lived in Northern Saskatchewan, it wasn't unusual to see the water bombers landing on the lake to pick up a load of water to transport. I was always so impressed with the precision it required to bring those large planes down.
I read the first link. What a man! This must be such a hard day for you. (I think I know the memorial by Breton Flats that William Kendall (above) refers to. If I ever get that way again, I will have a look.)
I feel my heart rate increase each time I read about William. He was so young, I can't imagine. I sent last year's memorial blog to my brother in Cold Lake and it got to his heart too. Just the number 22 has mixed blessings, doesn't it. 💗
Those are beautiful tributes to William. One consolation you have is that he achieved his dream and died doing what he loved.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me share in your memories as well as your grief over William.
ReplyDeleteI thought of your son when we saw the water bombers over the cottage during forest fire season.
ReplyDeleteA son to be proud of.
ReplyDeleteI remember and share your grief...Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
ReplyDeleteAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings
A special son and one to be proud of.

ReplyDeleteI passed by the national memorial some days ago, and as always I stop to find his name there.
