Stuck!

Yesterday I got stuck in the snow trying to drive 50 feet from the car to the church door!

The parking lot had been cleared and the sidewalk had been shoveled, but there was a thin 2 inch layer of hard packed snow left behind.  You may not have experienced this if you haven't lived in this climate, but it can be hard to walk through or even drive through it.   My 300 pound wheelchair churned right through it, spinning on the icy sidewalk underneath.

My wheelchair veered to the right and immediately I was headed for a snowbank. I went back-and-forth but my wheels were just spinning in the 2 inches of hard packed snow.

Another churchgoer thankfully gave me a slight push  and I was able to turn myself forward and head for the door. That's the first time that we've experienced this sort of problem and it was one I didn't expect. You always have to watch out for the winter conditions that interfere with a powered wheelchair!

  1. With all the snow your area has recently acquired it's not hard to imagine the problems you could have.Like in yesterday's post with a couple weeks of above freezing temperatures you will either have flooding issues or lots of green grass to look at. Don't forget your ostrich.

    It's about time.

  3. You got stuck in 2 inches of snow in your powered wheelchair and I got stuck in 2 feet of snow with my Jeep. I think you and I are just 'a couple wild and crazy guys':))

  4. Glad someone was around to help you get inside! I don't understand why the hard packed snow didn't get removed manually. But that's just me. :-)

  6. I can imagine that would be problematic. I remember once lending a hand to someone in the same situation.

  10. I've had a vehicle stuck many, many times driving on unplowed roads or old logging roads, but getting a wheelchair stuck is an entirely different matter. Glad someone was there to help.

  12. Ok, FG. Out in the church parking lot cutting figure eights before church! Ha. Packed snow is so difficult to maneuver. Are there chains for power chairs?
