A Long Saturday Afternoon Drive

Last Saturday the sun rose into a blue sky and we decided to go for a long drive.  I started snapping pictures, mainly of barns, as we drove.  I find my new Canon EOS is light enough to use with one hand as we drive, and it has good enough resolution that I can later crop pictures dramatically and still get a good shot.  A lot of these are heavily cropped.

This is a busy cattle farm just outside of Meaford.

An older barn, but I didn't notice the two horses until I saw the shot on the computer screen.

Another busy cattle farm.  Can you see the single animal out behind the barn?  You probably can't see the cluster of beasts in the shadow of the barn, gathered around the hay bale.

How's this for a great shot!  I could not have positioned that tree right in the centre of the old church if I'd tried!  This former rural church is now a residence, but inside it retains the appearance of the old church.  We know the person who lives there.

And across the street the old Bethesda one-room schoolhouse, now also a residence.

A typical small barn on a hobby farm, probably just used as a drive shed.

Two more nice looking farms against the blue sky.  Today most of the snow is probably gone, giving a very different picture.

And finally, for today, the Bighead River.  Lots more barns still to come - it was a long drive!

  1. The pale blue winter sky with a streamer of pink, and barns, love the old ones, a church now a home, and another building also a home, what stories to tell there,. You still have heaps of snow, stay safe as the coronavirus spreads its wings.

  3. Nice photos from that camera, which model EOS do you have (I assume you have a zoom lens on it)? Barns are always interesting subjects since there are so many styles, ages and degrees of maintenance.

  6. Very nice collection of barns. I always thought it would be great to live in an old church. Like how they've kept it looking like a church. Would love to see the inside of it.

  7. What a beautiful day that was! And the pics are great.
The Republic of Rathnelly is west of Avenue Rd and north of McPherson Ave (a bit south of St Clair) You should google it since it had quirky beginnings and they still celebrate their republic.

  10. I'm often impressed by straight forward Smart Phone photos but when it comes to resolution and cropping they don't hold a candle to a good quality camera like a Canon, Sony, or Nikon. Many times I find photos within photos that can be cropped out with a reasonable amount of quality. Keep up the good photos and enjoy the creative fun of editing them as well.
