Tulips

The Tulips friends brought over a week ago Saturday are still providing a beautiful splash of colour in the house.  They're fading, but just slowly.

Meanwhile, the snow is steadily vanishing, even though we had so much by Friday that it still looks like winter outside.

Mrs. F.G. finally had a repairman in today to fix the vibration in her big new (and expensive) quilting machine this morning.  I'm hoping she'll have a chance to get back into quilting more now.  We're off to Owen Sound for physio later, and probably buying her a new ipad, since her own, even though successfully restored last week, is still not working correctly.  And we have to have a way of staying up-to-date on the coronavirus and American politics.  Big day in the U.S.A. today!

And speaking of coronavirus, I think people are over-reacting; just wash your hands as you should be doing anyway!

  2. I have started to sing, "Row,row, row your boat " as I was my hands. I am hoping that down here, as an island, we will stay relatively safe. One case came in on a flight, from Iran, through Bali , headliners in the papers. The quilting machine, down here a long arm machine and frame can be from about $15,000 to over $30,000, as every one is imported. A friend had a Gammill, then a Nolting and now a top-o-the-line Innova, she imported it herself, it is a magnificent piece of machinery , Some time ago she gave a free morning, demonstration, then it was a turn for each of us to have a go!! Wow, after struggling to wrestle a quilt in a domestic machine, this was like going from a bicycle to a Rolls Royce.Mrs F G. after a long wait and a service to sort out any problems, hope the machine can have a quilt loaded and we see what you have been doing.

  4. When I was a brand new nursing student, on day ONE, they had us at sinks washing hands. Yes. detailed lessons in hand washing. Warm, not cold, not hot, running water, and two full rounds of Happy Birthday. I'm still a stickler for washing hands.

  5. I agree about being sensible with the virus scare. We should all be washing out hands anyway but not being ridiculous about it. An immunitty to germs is also what we need to build up where possible.

  8. I think tulips in the house at this time of year is a great thing. Wouldn't it be nice if one could afford to have a a botanical garden built onto the house where one could spend winter days surrounded by plants, flowers, a few birds, beautiful music, and a bubbling waterfall with a pond and goldfish. Hey and maybe even a turtle or two for company:))

  10. Beautiful blossoms! I trust you've had pneumonia vaccines. A big danger from flu or the new virus is getting pneumonia.

  11. I rather like the look of tulips as they slowly fade away, though I'm probably in a minority on that one. Our government has warned that people over the age of 60 are particularly vulnerable to Corona and should try to avoid crowded places, meanwhile they are also saying that they may bring doctors and nurses out of retirement to help deal with the disease - somehow that doesn't add up to me.

  12. The coronavirus is scary, especially around here where so many people are getting sick with something, who knows what? I've had my pneumonia shots and hope this goes away soon. Spring is coming, so it should get better around here! :-)

  13. the tulips are gorgeous mr. fg!! as to the coronavirus, i am taking all precautions but with a very low immune system, i have huge concerns. it is here on the east coast now, a confirmed case right in the area where my son lives. i think we all need to be concerned and perhaps those like myself should increase precautions. just my humble opinion!!

  14. This is a pandemic and thus something we all should watch. But those in very rural areas should not be greatly affected. I do not live too far from a major city and am concerned as people from all over the world fly in. I am avoiding going out for errands as much as I can. That also helps with gasoline bills!

  15. Hope you're right about the corona virus, but so far the mortality rate seems to exceed that of the 1918 influenza pandemic.

  16. I love the tulips...was here yesterday and got detoured trying doing searches on the blog...I was trying to see if you told what kind of quilting machine your wife got. I hope she got the vibration fixed and is quilting by now.

  17. What a beautiful sight!! I wish I get up every day watching the beautiful blooms. Well, I need to work upon my gardening skills going forward. Coronavirus is a hype or not, but it is very necessary to follow healthy practices among us. At least the scare has made people revisit their hygiene lessons once again. Have a happy week ahead, DG!!
