Sunrise

I thought our pretty sunrise this morning was going to turn into at least a bright sunny day, but I was wrong, and even as a sunrise it didn't amount to much, or my camera didn't capture the brightness of it.  Never-the-less, we all like sunrises, right?

In one way it's just a tangle of branches, but I often think that a close up of the sky where the sun is rising captures the early morning colour best.

Initially it was quite red, but it started fading to pink and orange as it spread.

It got brighter, and there were enough clouds around that I thought it might light up the sky.

Then the sun itself appeared above the horizon, but the rest of the sky didn't light up much.

Shot from a slightly different angle here, without even leaving my chair, and I think it captured the colour a bit better.

But then before the sun rose far, the grey clouds moved in and it disappeared behind them, not reappearing til briefly this evening.

But compare the spot at which the sun is rising here, on Feb. 23rd, to the 4th picture above.  You'll see that the sun has if anything speeded up its march northward!  Spring will surely come, even after yesterday's big snowfall here.

  8. Beautiful, every one, Down here, mornings have longer hours of darkness, and sooner nightfalls... it seems to have happened suddenly, although I know in reality it is gradual.

  11. My favourite pictures that I take are of the trees against the sky. The network of bare branches again the sky is like a living organism to me. Beautiful post.
