Weekend Visiting and a New Chariot

We had a busy weekend of visiting and really enjoyed it.  On Saturday our good friends Gord and Cathy dropped by for coffee and a visit.  They have sold their home in the country but won't have access to their new home in Bayfield until the fall, so in the meantime they're off to the Maritimes for the summer in their camper van.

We were honoured to be included in their 'farewell tour', stopping in at family and friends.  You can follow them at 'Travels with Gord and Cathie' (where Gord has also posted about encountering two furry gnomes in Meaford - with a photo "in their home habitat"!)

Then on Sunday my distant cousin from Kingston drove this way to visit family and friends.  We had a wonderful visit over Chinese food at the Crystal Buffet in Collingwood.  Hoping she'll get back later in the summer.

On the way we stopped at Greentree Nursery and traded in a tree we bought in the spring (which had died) for a new tree. The new one is a 'Samaritin' Dogwood, a variety of Cornus kousa, and has variegated leaves and beautiful white blooms.  It's already planted and looks great!

Today the team arrived to bring my new wheelchair.  It has 'eye-level technology' so in theory this puts me in a position to have an eye level conversation with you.  In practice I think it will mean that I now have to put the dishes away as well as wash and dry them, since I can now reach the kitchen cupboards!

The one I've been using has just been a loaner.  Last August we were told my personal one would probably arrive in two weeks!  Well, ten and a half months later and it's finally here!  It is almost identical to the one I have, but for the neat new 'vertical rising' feature.  Ontario does pay for 75% of an (expensive) wheelchair like this, but I won't bother you with the hoops you have to jump to get approval.

Nice that Good and Cathie did stop by there for a visit we have been following them for a while. They drove through Plattsville a while ago but did not know where we were parked.

  6. I'm so pleased to see that your new chair gives you even more options. That's so neat, especially after having waited those long "two weeks." :-)

  7. It looks precarious but it does a job that didn't happen before. I will not be the only guy who has to do dishes.

  8. Yes that certainly looks like Gord and Cathie alright. Great picture. Well I see a lot of advantages for you with your new chair. Window washing, dusting, maybe some high level vacuuming, hanging drapes when needed, and don't forget cooking now that you can reach the stovetop too. An optional perspective for photos, and the list goes on and on. Great picture of you in the chair where you even look more like the Furry Gnome than ever:))
