A Very Welcome Rain

It only lasted about half an hour, but this morning a thunderstorm passed over and graced us with a nice steady rain.  There was thunder and lightning, but no drenching brief downpour.  All the plants appear to have received a good drink, and they sure needed it.  This is the first rain other than a spit and a drip in five weeks.  We've been watering both the lawn and the flowers, and crops, already behind because of the wet cold spring, are now crying for rain.  This will help a lot.

It's actually a challenge to get pictures of rain falling, but the view out back shows it a bit.

Raindrops on the driveway or the road are the best illustration, in the absence of a convenient pond.

Each drop created ripples outward on the deck.

And the plants just soaked it up.  Reducing exposure for these photos while editing them seems to show up the water droplets much better.

I did write my rant yesterday, but in the end on reading it I decided the accusations were too personal.  I am still angry about being put to bed at 7 p.m. some days, but I need to find a constructive way to deal with it.

  1. I'm thankful that we had such a wet spring in some respects. The water table is still higher than it normally would be in a drought spell, so our well isn't worrying us. The grass is brown and crispy. The weeds don't seem to suffer the drought though. I know everything will green up nicely if we get a good bit of rain. I hope it comes soon, Ottawa Valley is pretty darn dry. My farmer friends are loving the long dry days for their haying.

  3. I love your rain pictures. We also got some rain last night, and it cooled things off wonderfully. We've been getting too hot for my enjoyment for a few days now. :-)

  5. Sometimes just writing it down is enough to vent.

  6. Just read a good article on why social media should have a built in delay to avoid instantaneous rants that may be regretted later. I've often written letters or emails that were never sent, and best never sent.

  7. You're too young to be put to bed at seven.

  8. Gentle, steady rain, the kind that soaks into the ground, seems all too infrequent these days.

  10. Yes, we are in a dry spell down here as well although we did get one short super soaker a week ago. Having done it myself several times over the years I do understand rethinking and pulling down a post after it's been published. Some times in the middle of the night and sometimes the next morning. It is very easy to let emotions get a little ahead of ourselves at times. Sometimes just the writing of a rant is all that is needed to calm oneself but then in this instant computer age of ours we are prone to hitting the publish button and it's too late to think smart. But then again on the other side of the coin if we don't make our feelings known how do we get our message across. It is a thin line we Bloggers walk sometimes...…...

  11. Yes rain is difficult to photograph. Your leaf pictures also do a good job of showing the water droplets.
