Coffee Time

Easy but bumpy drive downtown today for coffee  with the boys. My fluorescent orange hat gets lots of attention.

Working on a bit of a rant today about the home care crisis here in Ontario. I'm tired of being put to bed at 7 o'clock every other weekend and it seems I will have even more 7 o'clock evenings in the future.  I think I should sleep on it before I post it.

We are having our bathroom re-done. We are at the drywall stage now. The two drywaller's arrived at 5:30 just as we were sitting down to supper!  Seems they just come and go as they please.

Beautiful evening though, sat outside for quite awhile.

  1. Down here folks in the skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, finish carpenters, HVAC technicians, etc.) are in short supply and therefore in high demand. Too many young people have been told they must go to college and too few are encouraged to acquire the training to enter a skilled trade where they may well earn more and provide real services to the public.

  2. The same thing happens here with homecare as there are simply not enough workers to do the job properly. When my father needed homecare I used to visit on all my days off work and get Dad up and put him to bed. The problem then was that they decided that they knew my rota (it was fairly random so they obviously couldn't) and failed to turn up on days when they thought I was home. This problem can only get worse when Brexit occurs and we recruit less workers from abroad. Rant away!

  4. Being forcibly put to bed at 7 p.m. is almost unimaginable and especially in this day and age. Definitely some changes and re-thinking are needed there somewhere.

  5. Rants are good for us but I understand your need to sleep on it. I've changed some of mine before posting. Bed at 7? Good grief, they should be able to do better than that for you.
Good luck with the bathroom reno.

  6. Hello, seems kind of late in the day for the dry wall workers to show up. 7pm is early for me to go to bed, I would lay awake till 12am. Ranting is a good way to let off steam. Enjoy your day, happy weekend!

That DOES sound very early to be going to bed!!
And what a crazy time for workers to arrive at your house.

  11. I'm looking forward to your "rant". Home care is a real challenge... in fact, all health care (at least here in the states) is a real challenge and a big mess!!

  12. My late husband was in a wheelchair the last 5 yrs of his life. He had a massive stroke which left him paralyzed and with no speech. I took care of him at home until the last. We had an open floorplan--living and dining rooms open together--so I put a bed for him in the dining room so he could be part of the family and not hidden away in an upstairs bedroom. I wrestled him from bed to wheelchair every day and from chair to car everyday. We had an intense time of it and we became better friends than we were before. We took a drive everyday---we did get an electric chair but he was not confident enough to use it being he had only use of one arm so that was just the way it was. We had many adventures---after about 6 months we had no more homecare---just me. LOL Anyway my story thanks for the ear

  13. Even in Canada there are problems with health care, it seems. Nothing like as bad as we have here in the US, though. Being put forcibly to bed at 7:00 sounds like a problem to me. It might not be so bad in the winter, but summer? I look forward to hearing your rant. :-)

  14. When we had a sunroom added we had people walking through our living room and also up the deck, looking in the windows. It was so nice when they all went home.
