I Think It's Finally Winter

Winter appears to have arrived here today, with snow all day on and off, getting quite heavy this evening.  And the forecast suggests no temperatures above freezing for the forseeable future.  We have 5 or 6" on the ground now.

It started gently this morning, with a dusting of snow on the ground from yesterday.

But then it started blowing in quite steadily.  It appears snow does not 'fall' here, it blows in horizontally!  Hopefully the wind will help blow it all away so I don't have to shovel too much.

I have discovered that the local cemetery provides a nice walk.  It has two approach lanes through the forest, and then some mature trees in the cemetery itself.  By the time I got here after lunch, there was several inches of white stuff.

I always think the snow on the headstones makes it interesting.  It takes me just about 40 minutes to walk all the way around, and the roads are in good shape, but of course have no traffic.  Makes for a peaceful walk.

Down at the shore it was white too, and Georgian Bay was just a white haze in the distance.

In late afternoon it came down heavily for awhile.  The tall spruce across the road were a haze behind the heavy snowfall.  Waiting to see how much will be on the ground in the morning.

Here it's cold, but the ground's mostly bare.

  4. Beautiful, we need some of that cool down here. So good you have places to walk easily to, and I guess a cemetery is as good as it gets, peaceful, serene, and headstones with snow sprinkled on top, a lovely setting for them all.

  7. Cemeteries can be a great place for walking and even----by golly---thinking. Love the solitude.

  9. Snow always looks more beautiful in the rural areas. So far no snow in the GTA.

  13. That does look like winter. All we have right now in the white department is fog. Pretty solid for three days keeping me stuck in town. They talked about people getting bushed off the grid, wonder what they call it for people staying in town too long? - Margy

  15. It sure does look pretty. My favorite is the one down by the water.
The cemetery you walk around is a lot bigger than the two I walk around.

  17. Oh, I so love these views...blogger/or my computer are playing tricks on me. I visited this page later in the evening last night to see if you had posted. Yet this says it was posted at 7:32 pm. And I do think it is blogger...I almost always leave pages open and hit refresh later to see if the blog has been updated. I have not notice it here before but at another one used to happen real often.
