Interesting Sunrises

We've actually had 3 interesting sunrises that we were up early enough to see recently, though all of them ended rather abruptly.  As they get earlier, I'll see fewer of them!

This first one looked a small sun pillar, a column of light going straight up, but directly behind a tree.  I had to go and find another window to look through.

This one was actually quite brilliant at first...

but as the sun got close to rising, the colour faded...

until the sun poked above the horizon behind the shed, and then the sky just turned grey.

This last one was the best colour, well before sunrise, but it completely disappeared and the sky turned grey as quickly as we've ever seen.  One moment in looked like this, and the next it was grey.  We never did see the sun until much later.

  1. Beautiful, and that fleeting moment or two when the sky is a brilliant pinky-purple, magical.

  3. You get the most amazing sunrises, so happy you were awake to capture them for us!! What a shame they don't last longer!!

Paper whites grow indoors here in New Jersey, mine our in my family room, at the sliding door. You can see the deck through the window!!

  7. So what you're showing is that each sunrise is spectacular in it's own beauty.

  8. Because of tall Goat Island to the east, our sunrises are always around 9:00 in the morning. As actual sunrise gets earlier, the sun has to climb higher up the mountainside to rise from our cabin's position. If it wasn't for the late sunrise, I probably would always miss it. - Margy

  10. I have better opportunity for sunsets because sunrise is behind trees that are tucked close to my yard. Either way they do paint the skies with magic.

  12. I love to watch the sunrise and like Margy ours has to come over the hill behind us so it is later than the projected time advertised. Beautiful and fleeting.
