Crab Apples and a Redbud

There are several Crab Apple trees on the streets where I ride and they are just stunningly beautiful this week.  Sadly the blossoms are over far too quickly, but in the meantime, if you take a moment to stop and look, they're worth looking at!  All the vibrant shades of pink that you can imagine.

This is the tree with a gorgeous ring of bright yellow Daffodils earlier in the spring.

Down a couple of blocks and around a corner is this one, a lighter shade of pink.

And down Nelson street is yet another.  All beautiful for a week or so.

Around 3 or 4 blocks, at some friends' house, is this Redbud.  They grow profusely further south, as in the Great Smokies where we've seen them, but I wasn't sure they would survive much less bloom this far north.  We have two young ones growing here, hoping for the best.

  4. I'm seeing more and more Redbuds in the city. Global warming I guess. The heat finished off the crabapple blossoms this week.

  5. I wonder how someone long ago looking at a beautiful apple tree like that had the heart to call it a crab. There is nothing crabby about those beautiful Spring colors at all.

  9. Several of my neighbour's have flowering crabapple trees, as well as apple (likely Morden) - all in bloom this week. I so enjoy the scent of these flowers and am sad when the petals start to fall.

    Gorgeous photos!

  13. It's an awful pun, but your surrounding neighborhood is certainly "in the pink" these days with all those lovely flowing trees.

  15. The blooming trees are wonderful. I really like crabapples but never owned one. My redbud will be a big tree in ten years.
