Sunny Day for Squirrels!

It's a nice sunny day here though as you can see we don't really have much snow.  The birds seem to have totally abandoned us the past couple of weeks, but the squirrels haven't!

It's been a nice day to just sit quietly and read in front of the window.  I'm still working away on local native history and on tidying up my old geocaching records.  Lots to do.  Mrs. F.G. is out running a workshop for some quilters on making some Christmas gnomes.

The squirrel races up the bird feeder pole, sits there to make sure the coast is clear, and then hangs down over the peanut feeder.  I still don't know how it gets the peanuts out, but they are steadily declining.

Something disturbs it and it's off to plaster itself against the nearest tree trunk.

A rival appears around the next tree trunk and it's off they race, one chasing the other.

A gathering of gnomes!

  2. We only see the occasional blue jay at the feeders, but there are lots of different birds in the forest. I think once the snow gets deep they will come looking for an easier food source. The squirrels try to get at it, but we have it in a precarious spot right now.

  5. Lovely gnomes, what a get-together. And the squirrels, upside down or any which way, they are always so entertaining.

  6. H. says the gnomes are adorable -- as usual, she's absolutely correct. Given half a chance, the gray squirrels will clean out the bird feeders -- but they're also interesting to watch.

  7. Squirrels are ingenious at finding ways to get at the food. I have some that visit my neighbour's bird feeders which entertain me - and irritate him! Mrs FG is clearly very fond of gnomes, the furrier the better!

  11. Looks like you are the Mayor of Gnomeville up there. Despite my 'Squirrel Wars' I do enjoy the little critters racing around the front yard chasing each other. Even though I feed them they still won't leave our bird feeders alone. I find the birds are unpredictable in their eating habits. Sometimes no birds around and sometimes swarms of the of the feathery little creatures.
