Sunny Day!

We get enough of those dull grey days at this time of year, it's great to look out and see bright sunshine splashed across the snow.  Yesterday was busy, with our morning caregiver never arriving, the nurse here to do her monthly check-up, and then downtown for coffee with my friends in the afternoon.  But this is the view this morning, a glorious, if cold, winter day.

After Wednesday's storm and accumulated snowfall, yesterday we just had a very gentle snowfall most of the morning, adding another 4 inches of the white fluffy stuff.  It rested gently on everything around the yard.

And the night before we had another of those gentle sunsets in the east.  In late afternoon this big bank of clouds lit up brightly in the setting sun.   Have you been keeping track?  Yes. tomorrow night is the winter solstice; tomorrow is the shortest day of the year here.  On Sunday the days start to get longer.  Great reason to celebrate, eh?

The light fluffy snow was piled on every branch of the spruce, on our neighbour's cedars, and on Mrs. F.G.'s winter planter.

I tried to get artistic with our garden heron and dried grasses, but I'm not sure it worked.

  1. Looks like a good dollop, but sunshine is wonderful. Even though we are in summer mode, it is with cold mornings, rain, and almost back into winter clothes. Those red berries are lovely and bright against the white.Dried grasses are like bare branches, they always have beauty.

  2. The snow looks wonderful when lit by the sun. It's a heron, is it? I thought it was an ostrich burying its head and waiting for summer.

  4. I envy you your sunshine. We've got an atmospheric river of rain falling outside, and it's supposed to continue right into Sunday. Your artistic shots worked, to my eye anyway. Thanks for sharing these great pictures. Happy holidays and solstice! :-)

  5. Always great to see the sun after it snows. If it is real cold the air seems to glitter.

  7. It's always amazing how a little sunshine can perk us up on long dark winter days. Glad to get this shortest day of the year behind us and although not perceptible at first I'm very much looking forward to the longer light of day. Come on Spring:))
