Seven months after getting home, we feel we have finally arranged the home care we want. What a relief! We tried all the options, and hope the one we chose will work out for us.
I think I mentioned we were pursuing the 'Family Managed' option, where they give you the money and you hire your own home care. But the further I got into it, the more I saw the disadvantages. And then two agencies offered to provide coverage seven days a week, morning and evening.
That was enough to change our minds. So we will get morning care from the V.O.N., and evening care from Care Partners. That leaves us to work at getting consistent and appropriate times from these folks. I'll let you know how it goes.
And now we're off to remodel a bathroom.
Progress. Beginning sounds good. Looking forward to reading how the am/pm care works out - and I am guessing you have a plan for your bathroom remodel?

I hope it goes well! Agencies have the advantage of having substitute help available so you don't have to spend time searching for someone.
ReplyDeletea new bathroom? We have the framing done for a small one with a toilet and vanity, then when that is finished, and can be used, the big new one with a wet floor shower, grab rails, non skid ninyl on all the floor, fan heater, etc. I hope your new alteration goes well, ours has so far. And great news on the home care, it sounds like, although it has taken a long time, all worked out good at last. We are into Autumn in a big way, down to 1C just North of us tonight, and we have ice on the car windscreen, the one that isn't in the garage .
ReplyDeleteI used two agencies for my mother, one in the States where she lived and another in Powell River when she came to visit. She needed 24 hour care so it was a bit tricky, but I was able to work it out so I could get respite time in both places. As Nancy said, using an agency helped with getting someone if a substitute was needed. - Margy
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that things are getting sorted out, but it all takes so much time. Similar situation here.
ReplyDeleteNice to get those things in place and the bathroom remodel project underway.
ReplyDeleteThat is great news. It sure takes time but it is indeed progress. Have fun choosing things for the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteThat is good news.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear things are finally getting worked out. Good luck on the bathroom remodeling.
ReplyDeleteGlad things are improving for you and with time it become more manageable.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck on the Remodel.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
I fear the self-managed option for those reasons, if someone is sick. Plus if you do not know who you are hiring, or where they came from. Good luck with the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope it works out well for you...all of it is such a headache...and it is at a time when under so much stress anyway.
ReplyDeleteOH, I meant to reply and tell you that the tomato on on my blog was a photo from a few summers ago.
I imagine with all the work and waiting comes a lot of paper telephone calls, paper work, and computer inquiries plus a bunch of, etc. etc's.
ReplyDeleteOoops, I used to many 'paper' words.
ReplyDeleteI am just glad you have the option for daily home care. I don't know if the same would be offered here in the US where everything is so expensive. Good luck on the bathroom renovation. I hope to see some pictures one day. :-)
ReplyDeleteAll things come to those who wait -- but sometimes it takes a da-n long time. Hopefully the new bathroom will make life easier for both of you.
