A Cold Rainy Day

Late October brings a lot of change in the weather as we leave the warm days of fall and head toward winter.  It's a time when we have dress more warmly and the winter jackets come out of the closet.  There's lots of outside clean-up work to be done too, for which cool sunny days are best.

Not much you can do outside on a day like this, but the Blue Jays were still by, hunting for seeds.

Days like this at 5 degrees above freezing in late fall always feel colder than winter days at 5 degrees below freezing. I think we must get used to the colder temperatures as winter arrives.

The raindrops provide lots of interesting patterns, but can you tell I'm struggling ton find new blog topics every day!  Not getting out much, and not many new photos.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

I thought a short video might give you a
more realistic impression of both the back yard
and the weather.

  1. I find there's something soothing about the wind blowing the branches about like that in the video.

If only it rained between midnight and six in the morning. There hasn't been rain here today, but that doesn't mean it might not show up.

  2. The raindrops on the windows make for interesting photos, it must have been quite breezy to put that much rain on the windows.

Not only do we get used to the cooler temperatures, but the humidity is lower on those below freezing days. On damp days it takes more of our body heat to warm the damp air trapped in our clothing as well as warm the damp clothing itself so we lose more heat and feel colder.

Don't fret about finding topics for posts, we all go through dry spells.

  7. The view from your windows are wonderful, wide and open spaces with trees in their autumn colours.Love those raindrops. What about some pics from your archives for us newer followers, before we "met " you. Or even be very brave, and show us some of Mrs F.G.'s creations.

  8. Snippets of what you see and hear - a treat. Good idea Nancy J had about some pics from your archives - and would Mrs. F.G be willing to share pictures of her creations?

ps: we got rain tonight and for the next several days after about 15 days of Indian Summer. I cleaned up the tomato plants today and bagged them for recycling.

  10. It's that time of year. I like to cocoon indoors on a rainy day.

  11. You have a lovely back yard view. The video was nice and I know you'll have no problem finding things to write about as the season changes from fall to winter. Staying indoors on wet, cool days can be pleasant too.

  16. Last year October was like September and November like October. I remember it as the best Autumn weather ever. This year our October has been like an old fashioned miserably cold and wet November. I know they are predicting a mild winter but that's pretty hard to swallow at this point so far. I do think you have probably had more rain up your way than we have had down here.

  17. These are really impressive shots. I like the patterns of the leaves that blend in to make the plane of deck and grass blend into a surrealistic visual. I am not ready for snow but I know the it is coming.
