But we drove down that busy road, and there it was! Mrs. F.G. was vindicated. I squeezed the car off the road in the midst of traffic and crossed the road to get a picture. But wait! .... there are some extra legs behind that camel.
Yes, the mother camel had a calf. I've never seen a camel before outside a zoo, let alone a camel calf.
We watched for a few moments and the calf stuck very close to mama.
This is for all you ladies who also love puppies and kittens. Or maybe you don't have the same reaction to a baby camel's face?
When finally there was a break in traffic, we started to pull away, noticing another camel in a pasture with some horses. Dad perhaps?

Wow! That is fascinating. I wonder what the story behind this is.
ReplyDeleteCool. I too wonder were they rescued...there must be a story there:)
ReplyDeleteCamels? Now that is really interesting! I think all babies are cute, except maybe maggots. :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see you have them too. Down here in northcentral Pennsylvania there's at least one Amish farmer who's milking camels, apparently the milk brings a really high price in some urban areas.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find, and to have the baby there as well, Mrs F.G. full marks for your eyes being so observant.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the baby! Did you know that the U.S. Army experimented with keeping camels in the western states? That was 160 years ago, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if she is still there, but out on San Juan Island in Washington State there was a camel named Mona. You could see here along the road in the pasture. It was quite an unusual sight. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing find!
ReplyDeleteHello, I have only seen camels in zoos too. The calf is adorable. Wonderful sighting and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Sunday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteSuch a curious find in our part of the world and so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDo the owners make camel's milk cheese or something? Maybe they are just camel fans.
ReplyDeleteWant to see seriously cute baby animals? Try a baby rhino. They are utterly charming.
Too cool, there was Camels brought to the desert here in Quartzsite AZ a long time ago as an experiment for the army bu to not work out.
ReplyDeleteoooooh how very cute, i don't think i have ever seen a baby camel!!! the last time i was right was in 1978, the hubs loves to tell that story, i just let him!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww....that baby camel is so cute! Now that's something you don't see everyday.
ReplyDeleteQuite a trio. You wonder what the other animals think of them.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the baby camel. Sooo cute.
ReplyDeleteThat isn't a sight you see every day.
Cool find for Mrs FG.
ReplyDeleteOh so lovely to see these photo's.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
