Barns and Fences

I've captured some interesting photos of barns and other 'things rural' the past couple of days, driving both to Kitchener and up to Meaford.  I always enjoy trying to get shots that capture the flavour of our rural countryside.

This farm looked like a really nice farmstead, nestled along the Grand River on my way to Kitchener, and well cared for by the looks of it.

This barn is further away, but I managed to find an unobstructed view between the trees.

I thought this one had a lot of fences around it, and actually had quite a nice historic old house too.

And just down the road was this year's hay crop ready for winter.  It's unusual to see individual bales wrapped like this, and stacked vertically.

And these short fat 'breadloaf' bales of corn fodder are quite unusual to see.  I've never seen whatever machine bales the corn stalks up like this.

I drive by this barn regularly, and today got the light briefly in between clouds.  A nice modern version of a split rail fence.

I drive by this too, and I'm sure that this fence is newly painted.  I don't remember it, and I've been by here numerous times in the past year.

A fourth incredible warm summer day in November!!  Above 21°C, and I got a lot of remnant bits of yard work done.  Got out for a hike in a new place too; I'll tell you about that soon.  But tomorrow normal November weather returns, with colder temperatures and rain.  My least favourite sort of day!

  2. Love those barns, your weather looks so good for autumn, we had a frost this morning, so some veges not too good.

  7. Nice pictures of well-tended countryside. I wouldn't want the job of painting that fence.

  9. Hello!:) It's very pretty scenery where you live. and I do like the barn and fence scenes. Our hay bales are like the white ones, and we stack them exactly like the ones in your photo.
    Regards.

  11. Wonderful pictures and a great contrast between the well cared for barn and the less cared for one. Something about old barns that is intriguing.

  12. Beautiful countryside... the first farm feels familiar, but I've spent a good deal of time along the Grand River.

Regarding your comment at my blog today, it's been awhile since I've last photographed the city and national firefighters monuments here, but I'll be doing both in the next few days. The national one is across from the War Museum, and I'll be over there on Remembrance Day.

  13. Gorgeous skies. I'm in Florida right now where it's really too hot. I mean it: they are setting heat and humidity records every day. :-)

  14. You live nearby some lovely rural landscapes. I've never seen bales of corn fodder and those wrapped hay bales are new to me, too! That first barn looks so beautifully red under its green roof.
