I wake up on July 1st, and think how glad I am that we live in Canada. A beautiful country, 'from sea to shining sea'. And I hope everyone reading this from other countries have their national days that you celebrate proudly too! If I had them I'd post a photo of every province of this amazing chunk of geography, but maybe I'll be better prepared next year!
There will be a LOT of fireworks going off tonight to celebrate, but we've got a forecast of possible severe thunderstorms, so who knows? Headed out to hang up our own flag now.
The context - this flag was flying at the end of the pier in Big Bay, a tiny hamlet on the shore of Georgian Bay, which proudly proclaims itself the 'Stone Skipping Capital of Canada'.
July 1st also traditionally marks 'summer', as the first day when all the schools are out and two months of summer holidays start - what a good reason to celebrate!
Looks like this bay has tons of nice skipping stones! :)
ReplyDeleteit is a beautiful place! happy canada day to you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day. Stone skipping, that must surely be international, I can remember my Grandma telling me of playing " Chuckie stones" in the Clyde, when she was a small child living near Glasgow. Hoist your flag and be proud of your beautiful country. Cheers,Jean.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely and bonne fête du Canada.
ReplyDeleteBut normally, to link to the CDP portal, you have to be a member...
Thanks, reading the rules carefully I guess I don't qualify to be a member, because the name of the little hamlet where I live is not in my blog title, and this post doesn't come from there anyway. But I learned by trying!
DeleteBeautiful scenery along the bay! Happy Canada Day from NB.
ReplyDeleteMy grandkids would be all over that stone skipping stuff, I hope your weather turns out all right for the fireworks, and have a Happy Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice for the theme day, love it!

Celebrate and be glad for the freedom that you have. Your landscape and sky scape photos are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks and a Happy Canada to you. We do live in a very good country.
ReplyDeleteSkipping stones is surely a summer celebration, well done!
ReplyDeleteWe are indeed very lucky. Happy Canada Day to you and Maria.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I took my reference book to the mystery plant this afternoon and confirmed you were perfectly right. It is Seneca root.
Great set of summer photos! City Daily Photo requires you to post daily about your city, town, or village, so I don't think you're that far off the mark. But you do have to be accepted by the moderator to be a member.
ReplyDeleteGreat theme day shots.
ReplyDeleteSydney – City and Suburbs
I can't imagine a beach with stones rather than sand—so unusual for me. But your photos are all lovely and perfect for the theme!
ReplyDeleteSummer is looking beautiful!

ReplyDeleteA beautiful bay!
ReplyDeleteWe had our fireworks... but a few minutes before it started, we had a brief downpour that made me wonder if it would be called off. One of those three minute long downpours.
