Spiky!

I usually like to look at other plants like perenmials and succulents, but the garden centre had very few of these.  They did however have one little tray of cacti.  Once we got home Mrs. F.G. started putting the plants out to harden off, right at the front of our garage where she can simple close the door to protect them at night.

A couple of small but very spiky cacti!

And one very small tray of succulents.

Here they all are hardening off at the front of the garage.

A tray of herbs Mrs. F.G. picked out for their fragrance, including sage, Lemon Thyme, Greek Oregano and Rosemary.

And finally a tray of tomatoes and a pepper that our son grew and gave us.

  2. The succulents in your photo are the ones my mother called "hen and chicks". Enjoy the visual treats of the flowers and the taste treats of the tomatoes and peppers.

  5. Looks like you will have a fine garden when they all finally get planted. Given the weather this spring snow-conditioning might be an essential part of the plan!

  8. I have not heard the expression hardening off in some years. Probably cause it never gets all that cold down here!

  10. The garden goodies are great and a super place to harden them off. Love that red colour for your wagon.

  11. Hope Mrs FG has thick leather gloves for handling those Cacti.
Looks like the rest will make the garden not only beautiful but bountiful as well.

    It's about time.

  12. For a number of years we had a nice patch of Prickly Pear cactus in our back yard with beautiful yellow blooms each June. However, the last two Winters killed it off:(( Looks like you have some nice plants there.

  13. Will Mrs. F.G. bring the cacti inside for the winter? I'd love to have some growing outside in a small area but didn't think they'd survive. I knew Al had some in his garden but just read that he lost them. :(
We've never heard 'harden off' as a way to introduce plants to the outdoors. Makes sense though.
    Nice selection!

  14. My daughter is a succulent fan, and raises them in planters on her balcony. Looks like you will have a great garden this year. I have to get the garden centre soon. I am trying to talk hubbers into letting me venture out of my isolation zone this week.

  15. I always find cacti fascinating...just so many different shapes and sizes. Wondering what kind of tomatoes you grow.

  16. I hope this is the right kind of lemon thyme. I bought some once only to discover that it was not for consumption. Obviously only noticed this once I got it home.

  17. I saw that my neighbor way down the street has her plants all in done in a very straight row. You have me now anxious to go buy some plants. I have tomatoes started in the basement sliding glass door area.
