Here at Home

I've been out exploring my usual route here in Meaford almost every day, and the weather is comfortable, if not warm.  But the forecast is looking good!  Meanwhile here at home we have a number of plants making progress, and a few blooms appearing.  But we'd REALLY like some WARM weather to finally start seeing some leaves!  It's May 19th and still no leaves on the trees!

Our dwarf Yellow Iris is doing very well this year, and has lots of blooms right now.

And our Magnolia has come into bloom, looking pretty against the Spruce tree in the distance.  As you can see the Pansies are doing great too.

We have a deep blue Pansie on the front porch too.

And we have one of the best two lawns for Dandelions in the neighbourhood.  We're expecting neighbours to start coming over and offering to help get rid of them!

This Hosta is looking nearly full grown; it's a miniature whose leaves hardly get any bigger than this.

And our spiky Blue Fescue is looking nearly full grown too, apart from the florets that will appear on longer stalks later in the season.

Totally unconnected, but there's a farm on the road to Owen Sound that has some free range pigs.  They were out last week when we went by, and I finally got a picture.

And this wonderful rhubarb cake appeared on our counter the other day, and boy is it delicious!

Hope you're all looking forward to warmer weather like we are!

  1. The weather is warming up! Everything will soon be in full bloom. Your gardens are coming along nicely. I'm not much of a gardener, but I must admit, I have the best dandelions on the block!

  2. Even though none of us like the Dandelions the Bees and Butterflies appreciate them.
Really like the rest of the Flowers. Your trees should start greening soon.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  3. We drove into the interior of Algonquin Park today. It is hard to believe we have passed Victoria Day weekend. It looks like the snow has barely gone off! The trees have no leaves. It is very dry all through the east side.

  4. We just came in from a walk, the temperature is 18.5 degrees, and it finally has that feel of spring about it. If I lived close to you I would be shamelessly begging on your doorstep for a piece of that rhubarb cake. It looks delicious.

  6. Your flower display is wonderful. That is a great set of iris and dandelions. I was reminded that I was raised on a farm where I helped to raise hogs. I actually had forgotten it until I saw the photo. The rhubarb cake does look good.

  7. The flowers are all beautiful.
I've never seen pigs wandering around in a field!
We are starting to get leaves on our trees. One day nothing and it seems over night they are coming out!

  8. It does look like spring is in full flower, so to speak, in your area. You seem to be doing quite well these days. :-)

  9. Oh, my, the pansies are so, so pretty. As is the iris. And I love that spiky Blue Fescue is rather pretty, too. Dandelions are pretty...I look forward to seeing their blooms. And I bet the bees do, too.

i must say i laughed out loud at the comment you left for me about my new dishwasher. the hubs and i are having the same trouble. the 2 of us hover over the dishwasher controls as if we are performing open heart surgery. pushing those buttons until all the right lights light up!!

  13. 26 degrees forecast here today....definitely warming up. Glad to hear that the flowers and the pigs are not connected; they may be good at digging and applying fertiliser but their gardening skills end there.

  14. Your right, tree leaves are really slow in coming out this year. With temps finally coming up now in a sustained manner I'm hoping our green jungle will quickly fill in. Lots of nice flowers and plants you have up your way.

  15. It is rather odd not to have leaves on our trees but once the sun hits for a few days, we will be wondering if what we're saying today was really the case. :)
    Laughed about the dandelion comment.

  16. On our street, our side has dandelion lawns. The opposite side has treated lawns. Funny how it worked out that way.
