Rocklyn Car show Part II

We went from the tractors to the cars, interrupted by another visit with friends from the past.  There weren't very many old cars, mostly cars from the '50s and 60s, but they were fun to see.  I don't know anything about cars except for getting me places, so don't expect any sparkling detailed commentary!  All you car buffs out there can fill in the gaps for me.

I thought this was the neatest looking car in the show.

This was also pretty neat, and the oldest car there.

As you can see, a lot of classic big cars from 6 or 7 decades ago.

This was one of them - look at those fins!

There were very few trucks there, one of these still needing a lot of work.

We both liked this one, an early T-Bird convertible I think, with the toy model to go with it.

Who could resist this baby blue convertible, or the license plate on the little old Triumph.

This was perhaps the stare of the show for many, a Corvette Stinray, completely redone.  We talked to the owner, but he had not done any of the  work; he had simply bought it from the guy who restored it.  I think for virtually every vehicle owner here the joy was not in the vehicle itself, but in the work of restoring it.

Just by chance, I found this drone video of the Rocklyn Car Show.  I hope it works for you.

As for my wheelchair, I had no trouble on the grass for moving around, but the gravel laneways all had some damp spots.  I spent an hour cleaning out the grit and mud from my wheelchair tire treads before I was allowed back in the house.  At least I've learned to do a lot of this stuff myself!

  1. Super drone video, looked for you, didn't find you as he zoomed in close then far away shots. The oldest car, dark green, from Ontario, was that an Essex Super Six? My Dad, as well as the Fordson Major, had an Essex car, one day he fitted in the whole basketball team, on another the lambs to go to our primary school Calf Club Day.These days it would be worth so much. Thanks for the views, wonderful memories with every vehicle.

  2. Nice looking older cars. I had a '55 Chevy convertible, yellow and white, that I sold for $25 as scrap. It was the car in which H. and I first dated -- oh how I wish I had that car now, but you can't go back.

Sounds like you may have gotten in trouble in the past for tracking mud and other debris into the house -- I still do, but H. is very understanding and puts up with my foibles.

  3. Like you, I don't know a lot about old cars, except that I like them. And would dearly love to have an old truck. The red convertible one with the toy car is a Ford Mustang...notice the mustang on the front grill. Besides it used to be my older daughter's favorite car.

    1. I was going to make the same comment. My first car was a turquoise 1965 Mustang, the second model year. Mine was a hardtop automatic. I had hoped for a stick shift, but I was a junior in high school and my dad wouldn't agree with that. I kept it until about 1980 and sold it used for more than the original price. - Margy

  4. Like you said the restoration is the most satisfying reason for showing off your car.
Great pictures. That One car was a Mustang.
Be Safe and Stay away from the Mud. Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  5. You might have to throw some 'slicks' on that chair of yours for gravel running. No tread = no stones. I knew a few of those cars but for me being the impatient person I am a frustrating lengthy restoration would be the agonizing part. Jumping into the finished car and driving away works best for me. Maybe you too eh.

  7. The cars are beautiful. That is my take on any classic car. I, like you, know nothing other than it has wheels and looks great! :) I'd look good in any of them. Ha ha.

  8. I appreciate the art, and love others have for their cars, but I'm not much of a car guy myself. I think my mind has always been splintered between the uncountable lovely elements of our life on this beautiful giant marble.
