This is a beautiful serviceberry beside one of the neighbour's houses, in full bloom. You don't often see these as ornamental trees, but judging by this one, they should be more popular!
We've had a lot of beautiful skies too, though this was two weeks ago.
Last weekend, on a beautiful day when you just couldn't stay inside, we headed down to Durham to see McGowan Falls, one of only two among the big 8 waterfalls I can still get close to. Here the Rocky Saugeen River plunges over the mill dam and a series of rock ledges, leading to some nice picture opportunities like these.
The Crab Apples are in bloom at the moment, with their beautiful pink blossoms, a popular tree in our towns.
And downtown on our main street there are a few like this, ornamental pear trees I think.
Here in the neighbourhood the Ash tree leaves are finally coming out. I don't know how they manage with only 2+ months of photosynthesis time, for they are the last trees to have leaves in the spring and the first to lose them in the fall.
A distant apple orchard across the orchard that I never noticed until they were in bloom.
And of course there was our celebration this week to open the new 'Stew Hilts Side Trail' of the Bruce Trail. Here's the whole crowd.
Yesterday after physio we took time to visit Harrison Park in Owen Sound and went for a long walk down one of the trails, conveniently paved for bikes - but it works well for wheelchairs too. Then we had a delicious lunch in the park restaurant where a flock of Canada Geese hangs from the ceiling.
Finally the distant view out our living room window in the evening sun. Take care and enjoy this weather while it lasts!
Wonderful sights you have share with us fellow bloggers. Always great to get out in the fresh air. Predictions put us in the 37 C range this weekend. No breeze will make it even less bearable. Oh, well. June in Texas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and nice catching up with you. I love that wooden goose!
ReplyDeleteThe view from your window, that is a wonderful open space that gives you the feeling of not being boxed in with homes all around.Beautiful blossoms, and warm till September, we will have the opposite, and already snow has fallen in good amounts to make some skiers happy.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful here today too! I saw a couple of Japanese Tree Peonies in full flower this morning. I love that carved Canada Goose.
ReplyDeleteThe waterfalls are a delight!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are all wonderful. And it's so nice to see that your sense of wonder and beauty is not dimmed in the least! :-)
ReplyDeleteNice stop action photo of the water cascading over the fall. - Margy
ReplyDeleteNice to see all the beautiful flowers blooming. Such a pretty time of year. We've been having some really great weather too this last few afternoons.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous selection of photographs you've shared here.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
you have such a great view and those trees are so pretty. a lot of our flowering trees have finished for the season!!
ReplyDeletethe waterfall is gorgeous!!!
That shadbush (serviceberry) is certainly a beautiful shrub that deserves to be more widely planted. Unfortunately, the Bradford pear that you picture, while beautiful, is an invasive exotic tree that is all too frequently planted as an ornamental. It's wood is weak as are its v-shaped crotches which frequently split under a load of heavy wet snow.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you can at lest get to see a couple of waterfalls. That goose carving is very nice, if must be quite a sight to see a number of them. We've had a number of pretty days as well, this is a great time of year.
Looks like some lovely warm weather you're having there, it's getting colder for us here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowering trees! I am with you it could stay 70 F all summer:)
ReplyDeleteYes I am one of those who agree with 'warm enough but not too hot; it can stay like this until September'. June is always such a colorful month and you have captured some of those colors. Wished we had more waterfalls around here like you have up there where you are.
ReplyDeleteI especially love your crowd shot. What a great group of souls to hang out with. The kids with the mosquito bonnets are the best! Were the bugs that back?
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed this post - Bill asked if I saw that you were in OUR neighbourhood recently? Hmmm, now you know you are in trouble, right? so close! perhaps you don't have a way to contact us so I'll remedy that for future visits to the Dam. 519-686-6497 will get me as close as a cell phone. We'd love to see you anytime.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, especially the gathering of the Stew Hilts trail. :)
