I always like this view of Georgian Bay, taken from beside the 7th Line, on top of the escarpment, where the Bruce Trail crosses. The bay is about 7 or 8 miles away in these pictures.
This is looking straight down the 7th Line toward the bay. In the distance you can see the road continuing up a far hill. On top of those cliffs is the army training base, locally known as the 'Old Tank Range'. I was here to check out some work being done to remove fencerows on a farm adjoining the trail.
Looking to the left you can see the more dramatic Bayview Escarpment, a provincial nature reserve. The Bruce Trail that I'm standing on, eventually winds its way to the edge of those cliffs.
I've seen this view in a lot of different weather, since this is my usual route to Meaford. It's been dull and grey, raining, and snowing, but today it was bright blue sky in between gusting clouds.
I always think that those farm silos on the horizon should be at the bay, but in fact they're only halfway there, on top of an intervening hill. There's a lot of landscape out of sight behind that hill, before you get to the bay!
As you can see, the fall colours are fading here, but the contrast of sky, water and the rural farm landscape provide a great view.
