But this is a single Trembling Aspen on the edge of the parking lot at Miette Hot Springs, the sun shining through it, making it glow bright gold.
And the golden Aspen followed us all the way back to Edmonton.
If you did't see my first post in this series, on the Alberta Fallen Firefighters Memorial, in Hinton, you can find it here. Tomorrow it's on to the Conair base in Abbotsford B.C., and a close look at the 'Fireboss' plane that William flew.

It's been the dullest sort of dreary day here, with drizzly rain almost all day. It's 'lake-induced' rainfall, just like the 'lake-effect' snow we get in the winter - northwest winds blowing over the warm waters of Lake Huron bringing all that moisture down here as rain. I was off to Thornbury for a doctor's apt., then Owen Sound for my cardiac rehab class.
I grew up in aspen country and I do miss the golden rivers of their leaves against the evergreens every fall.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics of the aspen!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trees that make a fine memorial wherever they happen to be growing.
ReplyDeleteI love aspen trees and their pretty coin-shaped leaves. Great shots. Hope the next few days are better, weather wise. :-)
ReplyDeletei can't even imagine your pride for william....what you must feel while you are there. i wonder if you feel his presence at the memorial, they picked a beautiful spot!! those trees are gorgeous, special...i don't think i have ever seen them before!!
ReplyDeleteps, many thanks for your kind comment today. my post was a long read and i appreciate your words more than you will ever know. some people are just happy, no matter the circumstances. i hope today is a good day for you!!!!
How lovely to see these aspens. I've not seen them in person in the fall.
ReplyDeleteThe aspens really are gorgeous this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful trees!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely trees this time of year . Wonderful photos . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteIt had also been drab and dreary here yesterday with a fire in the wood stove in order. Today was pleasant, however more reain in the forecast for us, which suits me much better then snow any day.
ReplyDeleteI did look back to the "Fallen Firefighters' Memorial" post. It is sobering to realize how many heroes have lost their lives trying to keep the rest of us safe. My first "romantic" thought on viewing the trembling aspen with golden light filtering through it was that the spirit of your son made that glow particularly awesome.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots of these Aspens and it just made the light bulb go off about how Aspen Colorado got its name.
ReplyDeleteThis earth is a glorious thing! Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos of a portion of the beauty. We are now having wildfires about 30 miles from our apartment. Helicopters are carrying water to put out the the fires. So your Will has come to mind several times lately.
