The Moon, Sunset and Sunrise

I finally got an almost-good shot of the moon a few weeks ago - that is it's almost in focus.  At least it was in focus enough that I could crop it a little and get a large image.  I will keep trying.

The best moon shot I've managed in a few years.

I like these wispy cirrus clouds when we see them against a clear blue sky.

We don't get many good sunsets here, with a hill blocking our view to the west, but this one looked promising for awhile.

There were two layers of clouds, the lower darker ones blowing over, and the higher clouds reflecting the sun.  I waited for more pink clouds, but it just faded out.

I posted this shot of the sunrise three weeks ago.  Note where the sun is.

And this shot shows where the sun rose this morning - the location of sunrise is moving south fast as the season changes fastest at this time of year.

  1. I've always admired shots of the Moon - yours looks great to me. I've never tried much night photography. I do like the sky shots you've shown. Our sunsets here in the mountains are sometimes beautiful pastels but not often fiery.

  2. Lovely sunsets, and here, sunshine is arriving earlier, and when I stand at the doorway. looking Eastwards, much more to my right, Soon I should get some sunrise photos when it is not behind the tall trees.

  9. Wonderful photos ! It took me ages to get decent moon shots , lots of trial and error lol . I do not use a tripod for anything, every photo I have taken is hand held I have taken photos at 1/10 of a second and they have turned out pretty good considering and I have shaky hands thank goodness for VR lenses lol . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

  12. not a bad moon shot at all!! they are very very tricky. I've stood on my deck getting eating alive by skeeters a few times this summer trying to get a decent shot. I think the zoom lens quality plays a big factor too. One day I hope to get that crystal clear image. beautiful sunset shots. That's my favourite colour. :)
