Waiting for Summer!

The marina at Meaford was full of sailboats when I visited, all back in the water and ready for summer sailing.  They're just waiting for holiday weekends or longer vacations on the part of their owners, and they'll be out on the bay with sails hoisted.

The marina part of the harbour was filled with masts, all protected by the big stone breakwater that you can just make out in the background.

I have to admit that I've never sailed, and would not know where to start, but boats always seem to fascinate me.

Lots of interesting patterns as there were three long docks sticking out from the main walkway, with boats all down each side.

Even the masts themselves form interesting patterns.  And there were signs warning 'No Swimming', due to risk of electrocution!  I guess they have power running out to all these boats.

I'd never walked all the way out to the breakwater; in the winter this walk would be like the Arctic in a blizzard!  But someday I'll walk all the way down to that small outer light at the end.

The water here was just as clear as yesterday's photos, but the rocks appeared to be large chunks of concrete rather than boulders.

  1. The marina looks well-managed, everything waiting. It's like when I went to the beach a couple of weeks ago, where are the birds? The water is really clear, but no fish or crabs? It seems like a puzzle to me.

  2. Superb marina. and patterns everywhere. Summer, we are half way through our winter, and I am longing... already... for those warmer days again.

  3. Back in late 79 myself & another fella helped a friend bring his sailboat from Tobermory down to Wiarton for the winter. Took us a couple days & it's the only time I have ever been on a sailboat & I still to this day carry pleasant memories of that little voyage:)).

  5. Those are curious "rocks" out there, but it sure is pretty. I went sailing one day last week, it was fun. :-)

  7. NICE series of photos! My dad had motor boats so have been out on them many many times. I've been sailing once with friends. I liked how peaceful and quiet it was but there was work involved!

  11. Electrocution by sailboat. Irony in that.... Your wonderful posts have convinced my husband and I to include the owen sound area in our vacation this summer. Can hardly wait to see all this beauty in person. Thanks for all your wonderful posts.

  12. I'm magnetised by both boats and motorbikes. No idea why. These boats look so delightful, adding character to the lovely scenes.
