Sitting in front of the big window I got thinking about all the signs of spring I'm seeing outside. It's truly a beautiful time of year when it stops being cold, snowy and messy outside (for a wheelchair) and turns to warm spring weather. I'm looking forward to 11°C tomorrow and my first chance to get outside and go for a ride. So here are my signs of spring.
- obviously, the snow is all gone, at least outside my window,
- the temperatures have been creeping up and are promising a big jump tomorrow,
- the squirrels have been much more active, chasing each other madly around the tree trunks,
- the birds have been calling in early morning I'm told,
- and birds have been appearing in pairs, nuthatches this morning, and chasing each other, the crows,
- green sprouts of plants are appearing in the garden,
- buds are swelling, especially on the Magnolia,
- the streetsweeper came by late Wednesday,
- and finally, I saw my first Robin.
Same photo cropped - it loses resolution fast when it's an iphone shot. but it's still the first Robin of spring.
I've seen a few too! And heard some Red-winged Blackbirds which really makes it sound like spring.
ReplyDeletea lot of what you are experiencing, we are experiencing as well. i am seeing robins too!!!
ReplyDeleteRobins are unmistakable in their look. Love the shot, and happy spring! :-)
ReplyDeleteRobins...not here yet! Hope you get out and about!
ReplyDeleteIt's time for the squirrels to make more squirrels, they and the nuthatches will compete for cavities to nest in.
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a robin yet, but I've seen Canada geese back for the first time this year earlier in the week.
ReplyDeleteThose signs will be so encouraging, your winters are so much more severe than where we live, but even now in our autumn the mornings are cold, the heat pump does its duty and warm the dining room and kitchen. electricity is never taken for granted. You will be out on the footpath for a short trip very soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice when the robins return. I saw one at my feeder for ten seconds a week ago. It was being curious. Now though I don't think I have seen any around here so far. We usually have a lot of them once they get here. They sure did travel farther to get to your yard.
ReplyDeleteI always like to see that first robin of spring!!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing the same signs of Spring down here about 120 miles southwest of you as well. Saw my first Robin Thursday morning but didn't get a picture of it. Hope you make it out for a scoot Saturday. Remember to watch out for the radar traps.
ReplyDeleteIt should be an enjoyable weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fine! HOORAY!
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so thrilled that spring seems to arriving early this year. Even if we get a bit more snow it won't last.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Always so good to see a robin :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
