I've ridden down the big hill to downtown several tines recently, in spite of the sidewalk from hell! And there are interesting things along that ride besides the frustrating sidewalks. Here are a few that struck me as picture worthy.
Perhaps the most striking is this Yucca that was in full bloom a week ago.
You have to make an extra effort to see up into a Yucca bloom, as they all hang down, but I did my best.
Right beside it was this bright yellow Day Lily.
You may remember the picture of a Black Elderberry, taken from across the street. Now I've seen lots of Elderberry as they're common in woodlots around here, but I'd never seen this one. I don't think they're native around here. So I crossed the street on another ride and got a close-up of the deeply dissected leaves and flat flower cluster.
The very next house had this healthy cluster of Daisies.
And beside it a healthy cluster of Lavender where I shot 25 pictures trying to capture this Cabbage White butterfly as it flitted around. This was the only decent picture among them. I'm sure I've seen 100 of these this year, but they virtually never land.
On a different note, the Ornge helicopter was parked at the hospital one day, though I saw no activity around it.
Hope you're having a good day; it's been nice here.
Have never seen that decorative elderberry anywhere. Helicopters take so much maintenance that they should only be used in life-threatening emergencies. A hospital near here has three, but I assume they can only fly two at any one time while the other is maintained. Unfortunately some medevac helicopters in the U.S. seem to be flown for trivial calls just to pay for them.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. A shame about those sidewalks!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the Cabbage Butterfly. They do seem to like lavender; they flit about mine too and rarely alight for long.
ReplyDeleteI first saw one of those black elderberry bushes a couple of years ago and loved it. I haven't seen very many of them at all.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed those flower shots today. I left Yuccas, lavender and a black elderberry in Flesherton when we moved. Don't have the space for them here. Thanks for the memories. C
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful bunch of flowers...love that Yucca...and the Daisies, and the that Lavender! Nice ones.
ReplyDeleteThat decorative elder is common in England. Apparently it’s not invasive like the green version, and of course it’s prettier.
ReplyDeleteHello, beautiful views and plants. The Yucca looks huge, very nice! I love the Daisies and Lavender! Take care, stay safe! Enjoy your day, have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThose cabbage whites are elusive alright! The yucca is quite something. I’ve never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteNice flower pictures. I like peering inside that yucca flower. It does look like the weather is quite nice there. :-)
ReplyDeleteFabulous flower photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I still think your area has a monopoly on butterflies up there where you are. I just have not seen the frogs or butterflies this year we usually do. I've always liked those Yucca plants. Good job on the pics.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers on your ride today. I find the same thing with most butterflies. I can stand there forever and I soon as I walk away and look back, they've lit on a leaf or flower. Smarter than we think, obviously! You did well to capture that picture. The yuccas are lovely and I'm sure the lavendar smelled great!
ReplyDeleteThe lavender particularly captivates me.
