One Year Ago

I've been pondering what an easy winter we've been having (Did I just jinx it!).  The forecast was for a terrible ice storm over the weekend, but here in Meaford we didn`t get any freezing ran at all.  Yes, it is white, and the waves have been crashing down at the harbour, but it`s certainly not a fierce winter.  So I thought I`d go back a year and see what January 2019 was like.

Well, there certainly was more ice - exactly a year ago today, complete with photographer.  I was shooting from the car.

These trees down at the shoreline are always the ones that get splashed upon and iced up as long as the water offshore doesn`t freeze.  I`ll have to go get you some pictures of this year`s ice.

  1. I really cannot imagine how cold it would be to freeze the waves and water as it splashed up there on the trees. Beautiful photos. With your new camera, can you wear those special gloves with the index finger having a special fabric on it to be able to touch the shutter button? I get really cold fingers, Raynaud's symptoms, and I found some marvellous gloves, and they block the wind as well, fine fabric so not too bulky.

  2. You really get some nice high ice sculptures up there along the Georgian Bay Shores. I'm thinking it may have something to do with the big rocks and boulders. Here it's long sandy beaches so we don't get a lot of big wave splashes.

  4. I've never lived anywhere that cold, only places where the damp cold goes right through you but dry cold is definitely more preferred. I'd probably change my tune though once I'm actually in it.

  5. Nice photographs but I think you "jinxed it" FG.
It hasn't been too sever yet, although there have been a couple stormy days.

  6. Ice is nice when it forms beautiful sculptures, not so nice underfoot.

  7. I remember those pictures from last year. It does seem like you have been getting by pretty easy this year. So far, anyway. :-)

  9. I'm sure the lakeside trees would appreciate a more gentle winter. A couple of months ago I wrote that we have very low rainfall here and it's hardly stopped raining since!

  10. That is a lot of ice! Almost give the feel of the trees having flowing robes.
