A Two Butterfly Day!

Butterflies have become scarce with Sept. arriving, but Monarchs seem to have had a really good summer.  We've seen quite a few over the past two months, but the Butterfly Bush that's out in the sunny part of the garden here has pretty well dried up.

However, there's a second Butterfly Bush in a shadier spot by the frogpond that has come in bloom.  I was there watching the frogs today (they seem to have been very active the past few days, up to 10 at a time), and a dark flutter caught my eye.

It was not one but two Monarch butterflies, and I did manage a picture or two.

It's been alternately sunny and rainy today, but the timing was good.  No rain when I wanted to be outside, but a heavy downpour as soon as I came in for lunch.  Out again later, and the rain came again as soon as I went in for dinner.

  1. Someone needs to show you how to upload the photos. Can you upload your pics into blogger on your phone. Then on iPad or laptop whatever you use go into blogger on that same page that you saved on your phone and add words to the photos. Or find a teen to help you. I am missing your photography.

  2. Mother Nature must be keeping a close eye on you and making sure you stay dry but get to enjoy what's on offer as well

  4. I was up at the Botanical Gardens at Edwards Gardens last week and saw 6 Monarchs on one Butterfly bush! I think it has been a good year for them.

  6. Sounds like Nature didn't want to Rain on your Parade. Glad that you are still able to get outside and visit the gardens.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  7. Yes you are right it has been a good summer for the Monarchs. I have seen more Monarchs these past few weeks than I have seen in the previous 3 summers all put together. I always feel so bad when they fly into the front of the Jeep. I'm generally going slow out on the country roads but it's still near impossible to avoid the little fellas.

  9. We are officially into spring, but there is a cold wind, snow down south and an hour north of us. There will be a heap of photos to see when you work out how to load them. The grounds have been planned so well for those not so mobile, and for those who love the flowers, shrubs and tiny creatures, down low or in the sky, with wings, a place to enjoy all it provides. Keep on with the voice activation, a great innovation.

  10. We've been very short of butterflies here this year, which is puzzling and worrying for such a warm and sunny summer.

  12. This is most I've seen so many Monarchs since we've been coming to the Ridge.
They fly ahead of me as I'm walking up and down the laneway. Very fast, hard to capture so good for you!
Glad the rain treated you right and didn't give you a shower!

  17. The last butterflies I've seen were in the last days of August when I was over by the Museum of Nature's gardens.

  18. You obviously rode over the rain button -- that's the button in pavement that turns the rain on and off, but usually it works in the opposite direction so it turns the rain on when you want to go out and off when you go indoors.
