Fall Colours and Skies

I was surprised when I headed out for my walk this morning, to see that the trees were starting to turn colour, mostly yellows and orange, but definitely more colourful than 48 hours ago.  It was as if the Sugar Maples had suddenly woken up and realized, 'It's October; we'd better get ready'.  Thanksgiving next week is normally the peak of our fall colour.  But I've never seen it change so abruptly as today, after I struggled to find coloured leaves just two days ago!

I wondered if yesterday's rain had anything to do with it.  It has been very warm and dry; maybe one day of rain kick-started the change?

It wasn't just a few trees, there were a lot of maples looking somewhat orange.

A few of the trees were actually red.  A beautiful bright sunny day too, but the suddenness of this change just floored me.  It looks like the fall colour will unfold as it always does, even if not as bright as usual.

  5. We have been so hot here in western NY that I wondered about the fall color. There is some change in the woods now but not as much as you have there...Michelle

  8. Such lovely shots! Here, too, the change to color has been sudden though more of our leaves have turned brown and are falling in the slightest breeze before they can turn.

  11. gorgeous autumn colors. i was watching the news last night and rain/or lack of it does have a big impact on the leaves turing. we have not had rain in 30 days and he was saying a lot of our leaves will just turn brown - makes sense!

i am so jealous, those beautiful trees and that pretty blue sky. lucky you!!!
