I've been watching for the leaves to change, as they typically do at this time of year, but it's not happening very much or very fast. Half the White Ash have already lost their leaves, but the leaves just dried up and fell off. I actually had to go out hunting to find even a few leaves showing signs of fall colour.
Perhaps it's the excessively warm September we've had, but most trees are still green. I did find a few Red Maple leaves that are sort of half red.
The Silver Maple leaves tend to turn yellow rather than red.
The Sumach does turn brilliant red, but there are literally only a few bright spots in our big patch of them.
Admittedly, our Burning Bush by the front door is red.
And I did find some reddish-brown Red Oak leaves on one particular Oak Tree. The rest are all green.
In comparison, these pictures are from October 1st last year. I'll be reporting on how this year's fall colours turn out. In the meantime, we enjoyed the beautiful warm October day and got some outside work done - until it got too hot! In October!
You have a lot of very br.ight reds!
ReplyDeletewe saw some pretty colors when we drove from here, new jersey, to canada in mid september...more than i expected to see. and it was hot, much hotter than i expected! you did better last year, but perhaps it's coming!!
ReplyDeleteBeen noticing the same lack of Autumn colors down our way as well. One has to really look hard for any patches of color in the forests. Seems kinda odd.
ReplyDeleteand a lot of snow in other places, the reds might still be coming.
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering the same thing, where is the fall colours? Not much around here either.
ReplyDeleteAutumn here gets later and later - we just about manage to fit it in before Christmas!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant reds!
ReplyDeleteHello, beautiful Autumn colors. We only have bits here and there. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteOur drive yesterday to Keady, Markdale and Flesherton I had my camera ready but didn't see any nice patches along the road either.
ReplyDeleteBaptist Church Road last year was a mask of beauty and I captured multiple pictures.
Our leaves are turning quickly around here. I think the very dry summer caused some trees just to let their leaves turn brown and fall off. Others are brilliantly colored. :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you found some nice examples. Our fall color is just starting here. Time for a few weeks of photographic frenzy!
ReplyDeleteSome pretty colours. It's been pretty slow here as well, and I wonder if that warm spell last month is going to be problematic for fall colours.
ReplyDeleteStill you have found some beautiful colors of fall. Its been the same here though. Lots of trees still green. Must be the warm weather.
ReplyDeleteLove the reds of FALL...... We don't have much RED yet here --but we do have quite a bit of Sumac around our area....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
There is little to no color change here!
