This farm sold a 2 or 3 years ago, and I suspect they've been planning this from the start. It's being built at the back of the farm, probably because of Ontario's distance separation rules for new barns over a certain size.
The other day there must have been 8 or 10 pick-ups and vans there as they worked away. I wondered because of the roofline, if they're going to put solar panels on the back.
It's a huge long barn, with wide open ventilation on this side, as they typically build them now. This looks like it will be a hog barn. I thought about driving in and asking a few questions, but it looked like they were pouring cement (among other things), so I figured I shouldn't interrupt that.
This is the site back in July when I first realized that something must be going on. In my mind it's good to see the new investment in farming around here, though I do have my doubts when they remove all the fencerows and change to cash cropping, with its extensive use of herbicides.
Down the road northward I noticed this barn also had an addition going on. Obviously a dairy farm, as those are Holstein cattle there, showing up as a line of black and white.
A closer look from the other side.

Hope you are not down wind from that farm!
ReplyDeletebeautiful farm and barns, you photographed them beautifully!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a huge new barn indeed. I too hope you are not downwind from a hog farm! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see construction on a farm!
ReplyDeleteI guess the animals are wintered over inside, as are some of the dairy cows a long way further south of us. Solar panels, that would make very good sense, is the slope is facing the way where it will get the most sunshine. Are you counting the days?
ReplyDeleteHello, that is a big barn. I like the white barn with green roof. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week!
ReplyDeleteNice to see new barns being built, Even around here a few large ones popping up this year as well.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how fast things get constructed once they start. Seems like a slow process and then boom a new house or barn is up! You're probably right about the solar panels. This is your 'now' property, right? so you won't have to deal with the 'oinkers' for long.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to see new barns and additions being built
ReplyDeleteThe memories of visiting my grandfather's farm and helping with the chores.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see farming is still alive and well in this region.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
It would make sense to incorporate solar paneling on that roof.
ReplyDeleteWow - that is some barn. We lived across the road from a pig farm in Wisconsin - zillions of years ago. The worst smell was when the farmer came over to borrow our phone because his was not working. Woweee - he smelled like that all the time, it's no wonder his little daughter wanted to spend so much time at our house. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhile a new barn is always wonderful there is nothing like the lines of the older type. Great shots.
