Jones Falls

The season is passing fast with these beautiful warm sunny days.  I've been hiking, paddling, and gardening, as well as chasing waterfall pictures, but I really do have to share a few of these waterfalls, so here's a selection on Jones Falls.  It's calmed down a lot, but it's still roaring as it usually does in spring.

I'm interested in waterfall pictures for three reasons.  First, I'd just like to learn how to get consistently good pictures all the time.  Secondly, I'd like to develop some seasonal series, with pictures from spring, summer, fall and winter.  And finally, I'm thinking of some sort of publication perhaps.  We shall see.

I like those 'slow' pictures of waterfalls, but Mrs. F.G. likes the fast, 'sharp' pictures, so here I just played around with ISO and speed settings to see what I could get.  Tomorrow, some of the 'slow' pictures.

And a short video for your viewing pleasure!

  1. I was imagining the sound just by viewing the photos, and was glad to hear it in the video. That's a lot of water!

  4. Quite a task you've set yourself there, but it'll certainly get you out of the house! The seasonal shots should be very interesting as the character of these places varies so much depending on the water flow.

  10. Lovely, and I can almost hear the sound of the water. Is there anything like the sound of springtime waterfall?

  11. We need to take a boat ride up to the head of Powell Lake while the waterfalls are flowing. At this time of year the mountain goats are still on the lower granite cliffs, but you still need binoculars to get a good glimpse. - Margy
