Continuing Construction

Across the golf course I watch the continuing construction of a road which will be followed by houses on both sides, splitting the golf course nearly in half (or 2/3-1/3).  I find it interesting to try to follow the steps they're going through.

First they had these dump trucks going back and forth, and then I began to see a bulldozer slowly moving each direction.  I think they may be bringing in gravel for the roadbed.

Then the big red excavators appeared, apparently putting in the underground services.  If it's like our street they put in water, storm and sanitary sewer pipes (you can see them lying on the ground), gas, hydro, phone and internet lines to every lot before the first house gets built.

They've been working at this a long time, though it does mean laying down the main runs along the street, and all the short junction runs to house lots on each side of the street.  Must take a lot of coordination.

The piles of dirt kept getting bigger and then smaller again.  They had four separate excavators working on this.

After they finished all that you could see these vertical white stand pipes, presumably marking every lot.  This picture was taken in the rain and is a little distorted, especially the roofline of those homes.

Steadily warmer days here and I'm hoping to get outside a bit.

  1. Engineers, consultants on all levels, and the planning that is behind every new building site, Our grandson is now in the working force, as a Geologist, and has been going to a new roading site, as there was a possible landslide near a new roading area. Those dozers and cranes must make easier work of what years ago was all manual, but then there would have been no power, water or sewer lines.Hope we get to see more photos as the construction progresses

  2. Speaking of walks, we trudged around the block this afternoon, and a trudge it was with my stupid foot and cane. But I managed, and it is a nice day.

  3. Sorry to see you're losing the view of the golf course, but at least the construction has given you some activity to watch.

  6. this is what we "did" when we were in business, only commercial, no residential. it takes a lot of coordinating like you said and it was a lot of very hard work. the hubs worked with all the guys in the field, i, with help, ran the office. it was interesting to me as it was totally new to me, i am a nurse. i enjoyed supporting and helping chuck, the work gave us a good life. he retired when i found out i had MS, that was almost 20 years ago. well, we are not really retired....but we always say that. he doesn't do this work any more!!

  7. So will the golf course disappear completely? I hope not for your sake.

  8. I am always amazed at any kind of construction site to see or understand how things are all coordinated so well. I just can't seem to get all that planning. organizing, and engineering, straightened out in my head to make it all work so seemingly smooth. But then again, sometimes I have trouble understanding my bowl of corn flakes too.

  9. Interesting to watch I'm sure and hopefully far enough away that the noise isn't a nuisance.

Enjoy your warm weather! We've been having early summer weather here the last few days and it's been fantastic.

  10. It is good to have entertainment close by until you can venture out further. The lovely days are sure encouraging us to get out. Hope your rain doesn't last, we haven't had any yet but it is coming next week by the looks of it.

  11. Construction is fun to watch and the processes do need to be in a certain order. New road means they expect a lot more traffic.
