The Calm After the Storm

Well, the storm is over and we have a surprisingly calm sunny day, instead of the second stormy day as was forecast.  It's a totally cloudless sunny day out there; we certainly got nowhere near the 30-50 cm. (12-20") of snow that was forecast, though we did get 6-8".  And the wind certainly kept blowing overnight, as you'll see by the drifts.

Such a beautiful calm winter's day out back, deep blue sky everywhere.  I'd like to strap on my snowshoes and go hiking!

But we certainly do have drifts.  You can see the lines of two drifts across the patio and garden here.

And here's the drift on the deck.  You can't tell from this perspective, but its nearly two feet deep.  The wind seems to sweep down the backyards from the west and blow all the snow either across our patio or up my ramp and across the deck.!

Our friendly Ostrich is in a different location this winter season, nestled among the ruins of this year's Butterfly Bush.  It's now in a spot where the snow is swept bare rather than drifted,

My love of shadows on the white snow - you can find beauty even when you're stuck inside.

  3. Ah, snow to make the season 'feel' right. Of course having grown up in north Texas snow was a rarity in any forecast. Fresh snow while spending 38 years in Missouri was something I was able to enjoy every year. Lots to see from the various windows. Thanks for sharing the lovely views.

  4. I remember your ostrich being buried last winter. Maybe it's in the clear this year?

  5. The colour of the snow, a white, a snowy blue, almost translucent. Guess you might be inside for a while till this all clears, or will it stay there for weeks?

  6. Wonderful pictures. I especially love the one with the drifts and pretty red accents.

  7. Those already sizeable drifts may be the forerunner of larger drifts to come over the winter months. Yes, it was a great sunny feeling good day we all had here in this area of ours today. Glad that storm wasn't as bad as they had predicted it to be.

  10. Windy nights with snow makes for an uneasy night. I feel cold just looking at your photos. We don't have snow but our temps are really low.

  11. Yes, you have a lot of snowy white drifts. Pretty to look at for sure.
It's Ontario so we'll go back and forth many times with winter, I suppose.
    (Is it March yet?) teehee
