Christmas Preparations

We're making good progress with our Christmas preparations.  Yesterday we finished decorating our tree, a new smaller one than we have had.  Yes, we've downsized the Christmas tree, from the 7 foot version to the 4 foot version. We had the previous one for at least 15 years, but it was increasingly heavy and awkward to bring up from the basement and to put up, especially since I can't really help anymore.  But we weren't prepared to just not have one.

Mrs. F.G. has a great collection of Christmas ornaments, so two days ago she went out and bought a new smaller tree for us.  It sits on a little table, and seems just right for us.  We got the lights on the first day and yesterday put of the small fraction of our ornaments that will fit!  It made us think about all these things that have sentimental value to us, but may not mean much to our kids. What do you do with them?  And we have a lot of ornaments!

We've also finished our Christmas cards, just a few left to stick in the mail.  And last week we finished packing up the box to send out west to our daughter and her family, our grandchildren.  No chance of a visit this year!  We may see our son and his wife briefly, while keeping our 6 foot distance!

Yours truly, making his small little contribution to Christmas - wrapping gifts and packing the Christmas box.  I'm the one who does the Christmas cards too, so I'm not totally useless, even though I can't go out and do much shopping!

The snow we have following the big storm last Tuesday hasn't melted much, so it's still white outside, which does add to the feeling that Christmas is imminent.  But what do we get for each other when we already have everything we need?

I forgot to mention in yesterday's post on pain management, my recognition that strong pain is linked to high blood pressure.  I've been taking my BP twice a day, and getting some pretty high readings in late afternoon when the pain is worst.  So that was a pretty good reason to get the pain under control!

  2. you are so right, BP does go high when pAin is getting to the severe level. A juggle to balance it all out, if I get severe angina my BP goes sky high!!! Luckily none of that lately. Your wrapping skills are impressive, I have managed to get most of ours done, and a parcel ready to post south, the bigger item for there was all done online and was delivered this week. So many of us are finding the internet so handy for shopping, selections, and ordering goodies too. Stay safe and warm.

  3. Well done! We downsized to a 4', but Daisy chewed it, at great cost to vet bills. It's outside all the time now!
Now we have a little Charlie Brown one.
I hear you about all the things we aren't going to pass on.
    Good work wrapping!

  4. I have so much stuff from mother including an extensive collection of Christmas ornaments. Everything is in boxes and I have no idea what to do with it but the sentimental value makes me keep them for now. I was thinking that another small tree might do the trick for some of the very special ornaments.

  6. Good job on downsizing the tree. The ornaments will be harder to downsize I bet.

  7. No in-person Christmas shopping for us this year, it's all on-line. Helen puts the ornaments on the tree after I put the lights on it, but without family visits it just doesn't feel like Christmas. Our tree this year is smaller than in the past -- age does that. Today presents are being wrapped for the children of a local family that doesn't have the income to buy them gifts -- mostly clothes and a few small toys. For you sir we wish a pain-free 2021

Thank you for your frequent comments on my blog.

  8. I still have to decorate my tree - actually my mother's old tree, adorned with her ornaments. I never thought I'd get sentimental about Christmas tat, but there you are. If you can wrap presents and address cards you'd be very welcome here!

  9. Beauty of a tree! We downsized from our 6' to a 4' as well when we moved into the trailer. The first year we bought it, I put all the 'special' ornaments on it first and what wouldn't fit, either hung on lamps or garlands or they went to Goodwill. Each one on our tree now has a special meaning and I keep adding more as we visit new places. Yup, they get pretty full but that's okay!
That is a fantastic picture of you! I knew it would be you doing the cards and wrapping! :)
